    Klein Picture Request(s)...Please

I just purchased another pre-Trek Klein frame for my next project. Much similar to my Rascal project, I intend to recondition the frame and rebuild the bike with modern technology; the victim this time is a Klein Quantum II road bike. I know this may have little place in a MTB forum, however my request is universal. I seek photos of others' Kleins in two specific colors, Blazing Lupine and Plum Crazy. Klein's website sucks for decent pictures; I can't get a good idea for the colors in sunlight. Does anyone have a Klein painted in either of these two colors? Please post them here.

    Here's 2

Blazing Lupine (Top) is very close to the Klein Burgandy/Blue fade from 95ish. It appears to be a bit brighter/shinier probably because its a different paint.

Plum Crazy (bottom, Adept) is more of just a solid purple colour that changes hue somewhat from different angles.

I was close to sell that baby, sure glad I didn't, I'm keeping it now.

Anyway, scroll down and click on thumbnails, there are some very nice shots of the color:

I have a plum crazy Quantum... It's pretty nice. It turns copper in the sunlight at certain angles. Sigh. I wish more companies did paint like that...

I am excited to get my frame painted. Since I can not have a Aeros fork, I think I am going to opt for a new Easton EC90 SL straight leg fork. Hopefully Klein won't object to paintin the non Klein (Trek) fork in addition.

I had a plum-crazy Adroit, it changed from Deep blue to purple (plum) to gold/copper depending on where you were stood, out of my long Klein history (7 bikes !) it was certainly the best looking paint job.

My 03 is in "Black Sudbury" or something like that. It's usually purple/black but in the proper light and angles shows green and orange.

After over three months of preparation and anticipation, Trek has informed me that I can not have Plum Crazy. The color is only currently available on the 2007 Q-Elite XX, which isn't mad in America, thus not painted in America. After a few days of pleading and negotiation, Trek can not, under any circumstances allow me to submit my frameset to them for repaint, at least not for Plum Crazy. The fact that I was going to submit the frame with an Easton EC90 fork was also a major issue; if it isn't Klein/Trek, they will not paint it.

An easy idea would be to settle for a sanctioned color however, after three months, I have the vision for a Plum Crazy bike; my bike must be Plum Crazy. I am left with no choice but to risk it and hope a private painter can replicate it. It should be going out to paint this week; I hope it comes out right!

I learned a few interesting things about "Klein" today. It is quite sad really however, Klein is nothing more than a decal on a sub-par downtube.

1995 is when Klein stopped being Klein. It's pretty cut and dried.

None of the colours offered are actual "Klein" paint jobs. They're all Trek creations.
Just about any reputable painter will be able to replicate a decent linear fade or any other wild paint scheme. The Klein painters were just that, painters. They used paint, not voodoo and/or magic.
You should be able to get it painted privately for significantly less that what Trek charges if you shop around.
