    Fuel EX stem advice.

Hey guys. I have a mostly stock 2012 ex8 in 17.5. I was considering going with a shorter stem an wider bars. Anyone have any experience with this or suggestions? Any help would be great.

I went from a 110mm stem down to 70mm and an 745mm bar. And I'm 6'4". Setup is excellent. Steering is much more responsive. I may even go down to 50mm stem next year. Is say pull the trigger and go shorter.

Is there a particular reason you are wanting to go wider/shorter? I have the same size EX8 (although a 2010) and have been thinking about going with slightly narrower bars (stock width is 650mm). I just prefer it that way. It may adjust my weight and position slightly back to keep the rear wheel a bit more planted on climbs and descents.

I have a 2013 19.5 EX 8 and changed out my stock 720 mm bars & 80 mm stem for 785 mm Race Face Atlas 1"1/4 rise & 60 mm Turbine stem.

For me it's a huge improvement with all aspects of handling, climbing, & DH.

    I'm 5' 11" with broad shoulders.

    Thanks guys. Sounds good.

I just prefer a more upright wide stance. Its a personal preference.

A shorter stem and wider bar completely changes the Fuel EX (for the good). I had a 2011 and ran it with both 70 and 60 mm stems and a 720 bar. Bike went from being awesome to a trail beast.

I have a 2011 EX8..... 80mm Bontrager Rhythm Pro Stem, and 730mm Bontrager Rhythm Pro carbon bar. I love how it handles.

Anyone ever go 750/50? It's a bit extreme but I'm considering it.
