    Calling All Raceday Owners

    I haven't heard much talk about the Gary Fisher Racedays yet. I have had mine for about 4 weeks and love it. I picked up the Supercal version but switched over to a Reba Team front fork and an XT drivetrain. I also added XXX Bontrager carbon riser bar and a King headset (all parts from another bike).

    So far I am impressed with the pedaling efficiency of the bike and it absorbs small bumps well. I am looking forward to the next race on this bike. It defiinitely feels quicker than the Fuel EX8 that it replaced.

    If anyone has some feedback on their Raceday let's hear it.

    surely there are Race Day owners out there

    I've demoed one and liked it. I have a stable of fine bikes, though, and will probably buy a frame when it's available and just switch over parts. I, too, am mystified why no Race Day owners are posting here. Warning: Turner content. I also ride a Turner Burner and the Turner forum is just busting at the seams with comments about their rides. I come over to the ...Fisher...forum and...nothing about Race Days. I did read a review of the Fat Possum in MBA and they weren't all that enthused about it. Surely some Fat Possum owner would want to either agree or vehemently deny it's conclusions. Come on, Fisher owners. Time to post!
    I won't steal this thread and go on about how much I like my Sugar+ bike.

    There might not be that many around. The largest bike store in Texas had one Raceday about a month ago but I haven’t seen another one since.

    I had a fisher hookooekoo 06 and it was one of the sweetest rides that I have ever ridden, until some lousy b*****rd stold it of the back of my car. I am currently riding a specialised ho hum but am in the process of paying off my fisher cake 2dlx took it for a test ride and that was it. I have ridden a couple of fishers (still got my original hkek from 91 rigid and still ridable) I love fisher bikes but as mentioned they are not all that easy to find. clarence st cyclery sell them here in syd but I'm not that sure many other lbs do.

    Race Days in Denver

    My LBS in Wheatridge, Colorado (Wheatridge Cyclery) had a few of them just as they were coming out, and the Fisher rep gave me his own personal ride to take out! Hard to say if they are actually out there in other shops, but after riding it and realizing what a sweet bike it is, it's amazing to me that others haven't jumped on the Race Day train. Maybe a 3" travel bike doesn't sell these days, but I have to hand it to Gary Fisher for sticking to his guns and coming out with this true race bike. Sub-5 lb frame, awesome climbing and unbelievable descending--long travel bikes are overrated for the average cross country rider. I still have a 2.75" travel original Sugar (with vee brakes!) that, if all my other 4" travel bikes disappeared and that was the only one left, I'd be happy as a puppy in sh!t because it rides so sweeeet. The Race Day is lighter and performs even better!

    My Raceday Procal. just came In I will be posting in the next week or so on my opinion of the bike. I currently Own a Trek Fuel EX9 and I am looking forward to the new ride They have been EXTREAMLY hard to find!!!

    I own one vintage Sugar and two Sugar+. When I demoed the Race Day I could descend like on no other bike. Give us a complete "descending" as well as climbing report. Lucky you.

    rode the race day supercaliber a couple of days ago. trek/gary fisher demo day in pensacola. i can't wait to sell my 2006 trek fuel ex 8 to get one the difference in climbing is amazing. damn nice bike!!

    I bought the Supercaliber and sold mu EX8. The Raceday definitely has a more cross country race feel to it and seems to climb with more efficiency. On out of the saddle sprints the EX8 had some pedal bob while the Raceday stays nice and stiff even without locking out the reae shock.

    I know you want to sell complete bikes (and they all have a sweet component package) but I have parts laying all around my garage. Any idea if a frameset only is available?

    I don't have a raceday but I do have an 06 GF Piranha. I am loving every minute on it. Handles and wasn't to expensive.

    It would probably be cheaper to buy the Caliber bike and sell off the parts. I looked into a Big Sur frame and it was more than half of the MSRP of the bike (>$800). My guess is that the frame alone will be only a few hundred cheaper than the Caliber. The only down side would be the lower-end rear shock, which might not be too bad from what people are reporting. I see a Rbikes.com has prices listed for the Trek 9.9 frame or the Fuel EX9.5. You could compare that to the cost of the bike to get a ball park of what to expect.

    I am picking up my fisher procal, this week. A friend of mine who works at a bike shop let me take his out over the weekend, and I was instantly impressed. I had been looking for a new ride for a while and had not been satisfied up to that point with what I had taken out up to that point. Like most bikes how much you like it depends on your riding style...if you are planning on throwing it off on huge jumps then it's not the bike for you, and really why would one be looking at this bike any way if that were the case. If you are like me and you like to go like a bat out of hell picking out sweet lines then this is the bike for you. The bike I rode was stock....climbing...climbs better than any full suspension I have ever ridden, whether in the saddle or out, it's like a hardtail ie no bob what so ever, the shifting is extremely smooth, and the geometry makes a frame that feels stiff and easy point and shoot...hands down this is one of the best climbing full suspension mountain bikes around. Since there is no bob and a nice feel to the frame the flats are a breeze as well. On the downhills the bike performs extremely well for what it was intended to do, the 3 inch travel in the back is more than enough for those who ride the bike as intended and are picking their line, for XC riding this bike is great on the descent, quick, the suspension has enough in it to handle the roots and rocks that most riders encounter, and very responsive...I will be picking up my own this week and after a week or two of riding I will post a more detailed review...for me this is the perfect bike

    I just ordered my Procaliber and should have it by the end of the week. I'm curious if it is set up for Tubeless already, or if the tubeless rim strips came with the bike. I know it's typical for bikes to ship with tubes for the sake of easier assembly, reliability, and shipping. I don't see any obvious needs for upgrades on this bike - am I missing anything?

    ... and if we just ... Race Day update

    I have had my raceday for 2 weeks now and have ridden it as much as I can.
    Here is what I have to say about the bike so far.
    I have never noticed a big difference in bikes but on this one the differences (good and bad) are major.

    GOOD:
    Climbs very well, The bike seems to climb better then any bike I have ever been on.
    Componants are top notch
    Bike is very Light just over 25 lbs with pedals


    BAD:
    Bike seems to flex more then I expected? I only weight 140lbs and have never noticed it on my other bikes.
    The mount for the rear shock sticks out kind of far and can hit your legs at times.

    Overall the bike is increadable and I can't wait until my Exterra race in 2 weeks.

    kdiddy the procaliber comes with bontranger race lite disc wheel system and can be used with either traditional tubed tires or tubless, as you noted it ships with traditional tubed tires, I have not switched over to tubeless so I can't comment, will ride with this for now and switch out later on down the line....enjoy the ride....in regards to flexing I am surprised I am close to 200 and have not had any issues with the bike flexing at all, I find it quite stiff as it is intended to be and no issues with the rear shock, of course everyone is built a bit differently and bikes fit some people better than others.....anyways I have been riding the bike since last weekend and so far this bike rocks for my style very quick, a breeze climbing any and all things....I will post more when I have put some decent miles on it, by then I should be able to post on what holds up well, what works, what doesn't....happy riding

    Well I went to visit my Pro Caliber at the shop. There was an issue with the front shifter, so I only got to see it while they built it up. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it came with the Pop-lock remote. Also, the color is darker than what it looks in the pictures. All in all, I like it. I hope to be able to pick it up today and get some riding time on it tonight and tomorrow. I'll post back with my impressions.

    Congrats on the Procal

    Congratulations on the Procalibur. I love my Supercal and am looking forward to it's first 12 hour Endurance race this weekend.

    I am curious what size you got and what it weighs with pedals. Give us a full report after yuo have had a chance to get it on some singletrack.

    I bought a 19" (large) ProCal. I had the opportunity to demo some Super Cals when the Trek demo van was in town, and I definitely preferred the Large to the Medium. I'm 5'11". I put some Egg Beater chromes on it, but didn't bother to weigh it yet. Maybe next time I'm in the bike shop I'll throw it on their scale. Question: I weigh 155 and was wondering what type of pressures I should be running in the rear shock. I haven't been able to get the CD manual working on my PC yet, so I assume the answer is in there. I've read that this bike is designed for 10% sag, not the usual 20 - 25%. The only ride I was able to do was a quick ride home from the shop, trying to out run an impending rain storm, so I've yet to hit the trails. I can say that it feels a lot lighter than my Giant Trance 1 felt, and the Pop-Lock seems nice. I have a feeling that work will go slow tomorrow, while I wait to get out on the trail...
    Update: I just received an e-mail from Gary Fisher product support that said to start with 2/3 of body weight (lbs and psi) in the rear shock. The manual CD does not have any info for the Race Day bikes yet.

    Raceday Procaliber

    hello
    my first post here. I am a cyclist who loves the road and MTB. Trouble with that is that us roadies love going fast, love riding low, and get all silly about weight (of the bike and of ourselves). My first love is my carbon Italian road bike, but that's mainly because I have not exactly had the best of times with my Trek Liquid 55 (five inch travel Tank on stilts). Being all innocent a few years ago, I was taken in by all that marketing about suspension travel and being able to go anwhere. Those of you who also love road bikes will know what I mean...sitting upright on a bike that rides like a tank and weighs like one too is kind of a big adjustment thing. And the Trek is supposed to be light and good. Good for what? All I noticed is creaking, cracking, missed changes and aching backs. And yes, the frame broke in half too (all by itself).

    Then I began to wonder... I kept hearing about this XC thing. Going fast on a light weight off roader. Now that sounded good. So, when I was in Sydney last week, I looked in on what was on offer (just looking you understand...). This was the same crowd that sold me my Trek (and replaced it when it broke). I told them that what I wanted was a bike that was not that. In every way. Looking knowingly, he led me to the small XC section and there it was! The 2006 Fisher Procaliber. If I could design a MTB that was perfect for my needs I would not have been able to come as close as this. Fast, light, low, precise. Seriously, this is a genuine offroad road bike for serious roadies! This was the bike for me and 10 minutes later it was...

    Then off to my favourite Trek Liquid 55 rides. First up, a 60km hammerfest ride (30km dird roads, 10km of tar, and 20km of farm singletrack). Then my favourite rough stuff singletrack (12km of river crossings, STEEP hills, rock gardens and some nice fast stuff). And just for good measure, my usual 60km road commute to work.

    Conclusions? I simply can not believe that a MTB can be this good! It is fast, has massive pedalling efficiency, the lock out suspension brings it close to my road bike on hills, flat dirt roads and on tar, the steering is simply brilliant and the suspension!!! This 3 inches of Rock Shox/Manitou is WAY better than the bowel of 5 inch porrige on my Trek. (And that Trek has Manitou Minute 2/Swinger suspension that is supposed to be good). And the ride position is close to my road bike (I no longer have to ride like I am on a penny farthing - way up in the air and straight up). And...that single pivot genesis suspension design avoids all those mongrel multiple pivots on my Trek (that always creak, groan and fall apart). This is a simple, efficient, seriously well built, good looking masterpiece. Thanks Gary Fisher. I have been looking for a bike just like this for two years and had almost given up. The only downside is that my road bike is getting jealous...

    Here's a brief update after three rides: The component spec is great on the bike - no complaints there. The low BB, combined with rear suspension does produce pedal strikes. I have to be careful with pedal placement when riding through roots or turns. This is worse than it was on my old Giant Trance (and that bike wasn't very good for this issue either). I have noticed rear end frame or wheel flex on some steep climbs - the tire would lightly rub against the frame. I also noticed that the rear disc would rub if on every pedal stroke or if I leaned the bike toward the drive side. I'm 5'11, 155 lbs, so I shouldn't stress the bike too much. The shop suspects the wheel is the culprit for the tire rub, but I suspect the frame is the culprit for the disc rub. I did have an issue with a piece of aluminum rattling in the front rim cavity, but it is being warranteed by Bontrager, so it's no big deal. I'm going to swap the wheels over to a set of Sun-Ringle' Disc-o-teks that I have laying around to see if that changes anything. I'm still getting used to the Genesis Geometry. I tend to "push" the front end more than I'm used to. I blame this on having the weight biased more over the rear wheel. Also, I swapped the bar out for a flat bar - the riser was just too tall.
