Bontrager 29-3 Expert tire - tubeless?

I have a 2013 Trek Rumblefish (base model) with Duster tubeless ready rims. Can the stock tire (29-3 Expert) be setup tubeless or do I need to buy TLR tires?

I have the xr3 expert on my fuel ex 29, and I had a set of rhythm comp wheels with the cheap 29-3 model mounted up, both tubeless with absolutely no issues for years on the rhythms and for about 8 months now on the fuel. I have used both Stan's sealant as well as caffelatex and have had good luck both ways for sure. The argument can be made I suppose that TLR tires are stronger and better suited to running tubeless and so on, but I haven't had a single issue and I'm 230 and change, and run 17-24 psi depending on how dry and sandy it is etc. I've taken the fuel off 3/4 foot drops to flat with not a single issue as well on the factory dusters fwiw. I know most won't advocate doing do, but I've had no problem with it.

Bontrager 29-3 Expert tire - tubeless?

I asked the same question at the Trek store where I bought my bike and they said yes. So I bought the tubeless rim strips some Stan's sealant and stems and haven't had any problems.

    Bikes I currently have. 2014 Trek Fuel EX 8 29er. 2013 Trek Mamba 29er.

FWIW, I set the 3 Comps up tubeless on a Bonty XR850 rim with ease. 1 layer of Gorilla Tape. No issues. Great tires (but heavy as hell).

    You're good to go.

My '14 Fuel EX8 29er came with the same Duster 29ers, and 29-3 expert tires.

Get the actual bontrager tubeless rim strips and valve. PERFECT fit (obviously) and it is excellent. I used the Stan's goop, and no problems.
