    Advice needed! Used 2012 X-Cal or 2014 Superfly 6

What would you get a used '12 X-Cal for $750 or a new '14 Superfly 5 or 6 for ~$1600? Is the significant savings worthwhile? This seems to be a very good price. So far I'm semi-serious about the sport as recreation, not racing.

The xcal is an awesome deal, guessing used not new. Even then though xcal is a great bike.

The superfly is a very nice bike but think about what u need for ur riding. New xcal (well before they changed the whole entry and racing 29er series to xcal 1-9 or whatever) was like 1200 if that gives u an idea. Is ur desire to ride able to justify they cost of the superfly?

If you can afford the superfly I would do that simply for the frame alone, as you can't get some of the upgrades on the older x cal such as a tapered head tube or 142 rear axle, or internal cable routing.
That's a decent price for an x caliber however, and if you decide that's the way to go I can only say that I have had good luck with my cobia, which is a platinum series frame set and essentially just a budgeted version. No complaints in the least! I'd personally go for the superfly for those upgrades in frame set alone, plus the whole new with a warranty part!

Isn't the Cobia below the X-Caliber? It should be a gold frame NOT platinum.

It is indeed below the x caliber. I have a 2010, and know of a few 2009's that all are platinum as well. I can't speak for 12's but the geometry is pretty similar to the most recent bikes including the x caliber, so I assumed it was likely they hadn't changed much. Mamba had a gold series frame in those particular years.

I hope that photo works. Either way, good luck in choosing, I don't think you can really go wrong, but I have little experience with gold series frames.
