5"7 and my 17.5 Trek 8.5 DS help

    I am 5"7 and I bought a 17.5 Trek *.5 DS few weeks ago.

I tried the 15.5 and felt too crammed. Seat felt too close to the handles... With the 17.5 I feel comfortable.

People are saying I should of went with the 15.5. Isnt it about comfort?
Sure I dont have that 3-4" stand over clearance but with the 15.5 when I would peddle my knees felt too close to the handle bar.

    Anyway what do you think?

Also are the tires on this bike considered 29"... I know they are 700x38 but what if I wanted to slap on some 29x2" tires. Would they fit?

5"7 and my 17.5 Trek 8.5 DS help

Great choice of bike. I have the 8.6 19.5 and the frame clearance for me is about an inch when I stand flat footed. I had an old bike that felt to crammed when I felt to close to the bars. The 19.5 is perfect for me. I'm 5'11". From what I read and was told the biggest tire we can fit is a 29x2 on those rims.

At 2" I would be happy.. Mind you I dont plan on going hard core on the single tracks but I do want to be able to go out and get dirty... Then when I want to ride the roads I just slap on the skinnies
