I'm excited to try a demo with the new rear shock. If it works as advertised, I hope it lands on the Remedy too.

Yes, I know, but that is based on current info for 2014 models.

They haven't released any info on the 2015 Remedy yet & I am waiting to see if it gets the Re:Aktiv shock too. They will be releasing various road and mountain bikes/info over the next month or two for all of the 2015 models.

The Trek presentation had the new shock also going to the 9 level and above bikes in the Remedy 29, 27.5, and the Fuel 29.

A lot of people won't realize this and buy an EX 7 or 8 and be like "hey where's my Reaktiv shock???"

    Nice move Trek...

Really? If anyone is dumb enough to buy a bike without minimal research, then you might be right.

The specs will be or are already listed for anyone to see. How you think Trek is being deceptive or misleading is beyond me.

Chader is 100% right. It is even listed as one of the upgrades from the Ex8. If you want the top tier tech, buy the top tier bike. Nothing unheard of there.

How does this new shock differ from the standard DRCV? Thanks Bob

There is good info on Pinkbike with some comments by dcamp2 who was involved with the shock development.

Short story its a new valving that is firm for pedaling, but opens quickly when hitting a bump. Somewhat like the Specialized brain, but uses oil pressure rather than an inertia valve to control shock motion between firm and open.

Would the new re:aktiv work on the 2014 fuel ex9 (i assume it would but not sure if Trek modified anything else on the 2015 model to take into account the new rear shock) . Was thinking about upgrading if it gets praised in reviews/test rides.

It is the exact same frame, same size shock, so it will work no problem. I may upgrade when my shock is due for a rebuild if the Reactive is not too expensive...but the EX9 I have pedals and handles rough terrain so well without it, that it may not be a huge benefit.

How does the ex 8 handle 2 or 3'drops? I am in no way a downhill rider, but do like to jump and more times than not like to go for the jump instead of the roll over . I don't care to be the first to the top but love going down. That being said is the ex 8 a good fit for me ? any input would be appreciated .

I'd keep my 29er. It is a little heavier but the fact I can roll over rocks and tree roots better. I'm not that great of a rider just got back into this kinda stuff after a 25 year break.

I do 2-3 foot drops all the time and I'm a Clyde 6'4" 265 pounds. And the bike has been fine. I feel very comfortable on the bike.
