I keep searching a ton for even more information and ride reports on the new Scout, and Google keeps giving me articles on how to make a smooth transition for my Cub scout. I feel creepy and I am worried about the FBI keeping a special file on me now. : )
I am thinking of ordering a Patrol, but as always with my bike purchases sizing is in question. I'm 6'3" (189,5cm) so the Transition fit finder recommends a XL frame. That Frame would have a 35mm longer reach than my current frame and about 50mm more wheelbase.
My mind is really open to try a longer bike, because my current ride indeed feels a bit cramped with a 45mm stem. On the other hand I don't want to get into monster truck territory. Even my current DH sled only has 1215mm wheelbase. What do you think about the ride qualities of that XL frame? Should I go with a large frame? Even that one would be 22mm longer than my Nukeproof Mega.

I'm coming off of a 2014 XL Covert 27.5 that felt amazing at 6'4. I ran a 45mm stem too. The Patrol's XL Reach numbers are longer than I ever expected:
Reach: 483mm
Stack: 618mm
Compared to my Covert:
Reach: 464mm
Stack: 622mm
That's 0.75" longer and a hair shorter on the stack; for me I'd run a shorter stem and feel pretty good. Wheelbase wise you are right, it's a full inch longer than last year's Covert...but an inch is just an inch. I loved my Covert and never felt that it was unwieldy.
If you have long arms than I say an XL might be the better choice, you could always throw a 35mm stem later to shorten the cockpit. I'm biased too, because I hate being cramped, then again at 6'4 I've never been on a bike that made me feel to stretched.
I was torn between the patrol and scout.
Coming off an old (2004) Rocky Mountain Swicth with a 67.5 head angle, the scout would have been more familiar, but I decided to err on the side of more fun on the downs and at Highland since that was when I always noticed that my switch was a bit twitchy.
Just bought a Patrol 3! I posted this in another thread, but figured I'd slap it here too.
I was torn between black or orange, build up or stock, and then Belmont Wheelworks in MA put the orange medium Patrol 3 they had in stock on sale for 3325! Awesome bike and awesome price! $340 for a KS LEV integra dropper post and needs nothing else!
3666 in total to be exact. That's an awesome price for a 1x10 with stealth dropper new bike like this.
Still waiting for all the snow to melt before I can give real ride impressions but so far I can tell it is a wheelie/manual monster!
I am going to transfer my xt 1x10 drivetrain and atlas cranks from my old bike since they are new and better than the deore/slx/sram/ride level stuff.
This means I might entertain offers on the new drivetrain ;-)
I can include the deore brakes too because then you get the ispec mounted shifter!
Then I will probably upgrade the handlebars/stem/grips to shave some grams and customize the look. I'll only upgrade the wheels as needed.
I can post pics, but right now it is stock except for the dropper post.
