    TransAm 29er's Running Single Speed....

Dudes...been away from these forums for far too long. Wanted to check in and see who's running their TA as an SS and how they like it? Specifically the dropouts...any issues?

I'm doing an 80 mile race out west this summer and am in the single speed category. Trying to decide if I want to make my TransAm into an SS or ride my racier SS. Also trying to decide what the hell I was thinking A: Signing up for this race and 2: Why am I doing it with a singlespeed?

    Thanks!

Bumping this up, I am in a very similar situation and have been wondering about how well the SS set up on the TA works. I have a lighter, racier SS that is great, but the TA is so much more fun and confidence-inspiring on the descents. Trying to determine if the fun-factor is worth the weight trade-off for racing. Haven't seen too many 2012/2013 TransAms on here with the newer SS dropouts.

Anyone? Come on...someone HAS to be using the horizontal dropouts?

Can't speak from any extended first hand experience, but the dropouts are aluminum, so your axle nuts will bite in better than on a steel dropout. As long as you are running a real bolt on setup you shouldn't even need a chain tug, but of course using one would not cause any problems either.
