mine is with a 140mm Micro Ti, no problems descending, but climbing is a bit hard, but I am on SS, 32/23. not sure if I run gears, it might be easier. planning to convert to 1x9

So Where's the Trans AM 29er?

    i'm running a 140mm fork up front on my 2012 TransAM 29

I'm running a 140mm RS Revelation with a reversed 60mm Funn stem, very wide low rise Azonic bars and 2x9 setup. My 2012 TransAm 29 rides great in all terrain with a 140mm up front and it feels very confident inspiring down the rocky steeps. Now I'm not sure how it would ride with the new 2013 frame.

    markd0nalds,
I am running a fox 140 on the front and it feels amazing on the descent and climbs very well , zero wandering even on steep climbs. I have the 2013 frame and it has been run SS for a few rides but now has a 1x10 set up that I have yet to try out . I will post up tomorrow and let you know if the front end stays down without running SS .

I had a SC tallboy LTc and decided to swap it out for a couple of new steel frames and I have zero regrets for going this route . I built up the TA 29er now with gears and have a SS rigid soma juice (2013) that I just built up as well . The TA 29 is a very good frame , the steel feels really good even on braking bumps , rocky sections and roots .

i picked up a used 2012 frame in pewter just before xmas. building a set of wheels (hopes and tl28s) and waiting on a fork, hoping to have it built up and hit the trails soon. i've been riding my chromag samurai for the past few months, and recently can't help but feel that, while still a fun ride, a 26" hardtail is probably the least efficient option currently available for wet rides on the lower trails of the north shore. hoping the ta doesn't give up too much in the fun department, or else i'll probably go back to (suffering on) the chromag

Well I have a brand new TransAM 29er frame sitting in my basement shop waiting for a few final parts. Fox Float 34 will be here tomorrow, Reverb post will be here Tuesday and E.13 LG+ chain guide will arrive next week. Wheels, drivetrain, everything else is ready to go. Can't wait to ride this friggin' thing.

    2012 TransAM 29er

Traded my TransAM 26 for this and am building it up. Psyched to ride it but the trails are flooded! It's gonna be singlespeed but I don't have money to order the horizontal dropouts so I'll be using a chain tensioner for now Terrible pic but you get the idea...

Well my 2013 TransAM 29er is done. The last parts were chainguide and grips and those arrived yesterday. Still debating if I want to bother to cut the Reverb hose.

I want to ride this thing but its 15 degrees outside and the trails are a bit snowy. Damn it!

I quick note for TransAM users looking to use a chain guide, MRP G2 chainguide will NOT fit the frame. The back plate hits the chainstays and won't sit on the tab properly. The e13 I'm using has smaller back plate and fits with some spacers.

^ Is your Reverb cable NOT contacting the tire when slammed? I have mine routed around the post for this exact reason. And the 2013 graphics are a huge improvement over old TransAMs.

It's off the side of tire, but I haven't even ridden it yet to see if it hits the tire or rubs the frame. I'm hesitant to cut the hose, because I don't want to bleed the Reverb.

Thanks! I'm stoked to get it dirty.

I originally had this MRP G2 guide and if you look at the back plate its got a much bigger diameter so the bottom left of the back plate hits the chain stay before it contacts the tab. You can use spacers but it will push the chain guide way too far out.

This e13 TRS+ has a much lower profile back plate and only needs a 2.5 mm spacer (that comes in the box) to clear the chain stay.

The e.13 is a perfectly functional guide but it lacks the bash guard of the MRP. Oh well.

@VTsession you can shorten the Reverb hose without rebleeding. Reverb hose shorten - YouTube

tip: In my experience, it's easier to twist the remote, like you're screwing it into the line, then to turn the line back and forth like they do in the video.

Has anyone raced xc on a transam or ran it with a 100mm fork. I'm keen to do some racing and have a frame waiting to be built up. Just wondering if i should move it on and get something more racy, i like the transam's classic looks and the fact it has iscg tabs but the geo and weight may make it unsuitable.

I saw that video. It seems like some people need to rebleed after shortening the hose and some don't. Is there some trick to having to not rebleed it?

I did reroute the cable since that pic was taken so it is through the seat stay yoke instead of off to the side. I dob't think I'm going to shorten it unless it becomes a issue.

Edit: One more thing about the TransAM that hasn't been mentioned yet, the back end easily fits a Continental 2.4 Trail King. 2.5s look to be doable as well.

final major piece of the build (2013 marz 44 mirco ti TA) showed up yesterday and after staring at it for weeks i'm finally putting this thing together. looks like i need a 31.8 low clamp top pull front derailleur, correct? i think that's the last piece, and if i can get it sorted out in the next day or two i'll have 3 new bikes ready for the trails this weekend (wtf)!

edit: i think i'm in love

Wow...it's been a while since I've been on this thread. Stoked to see so many people on this bike. I've been running my TA geared and want to convert it to SS for a few months. I'm running the DT Swiss RWS 10x135 thrubolt and wondering if that will be sufficient enough to maintain the wheel position in the horizontal dropouts or are there chain tugs that people are using?
