    Scout Sizing

The Scout Sizing is different then most other bikes. A Medium has the reach of most other Mediums but a shorter effective top tube due to the steep seat post angle. I am 5'9" with a 30" inseam. I currently ride a Medium HT with an effective top tube of 615 and reach of 431 with a 20mm set back post and 50mm stem. The Medium Scout is 585/432/50 and the large is 614/457/50. The Patrol sizing thread seems to have most people riding a Large at 5'9"/5'10". Interested in real life experience. I am 58 years old and don't ride very aggressively and ride seated a good portion of time.

I'm 5'9 and have medium Scout and Patrol. If you're looking at a new bike, I believe the 2018s will all have longer reach than existing models.

Thanks Toodles. Is that with or without the setback seat post. Build 4 has a 20mm set back and Build 3 does not.

Ah I run a zero back on both bikes (bikeyoke revive). I have stumpy legs and need steep seat angles to get a good poke at the cranks.

Has anyone tried a small Scout compared to some other bikes?

I'd thought the Scout was considered in the long/low family, but in looking at the Size Small, it has a reach of 406. This is relatively on the shorter side compared to other smalls in the same family, like the Calling (423), most Devinci's (420ish).

The 406 reach on the small Scout actually appeals to me more as I have longish legs but very short torso.

I've been leaning towards some extra smalls, like Kona Hei Hei DL Trial, or Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt. The problem with the XS is the effective top tube is also much shorter because of the steeper seat tubes these days and makes for a cramped seated pedaling position
