    Derby Wheels on a Smuggler

Anyone done it and have any clearance issues with tires on the 35mm derby rim?

I'm running the roval carbon fatties on my smuggler and clearance is tight, but adequate. Probably worth noting that I'm running a spesh slaughter tire in the rear which probably helps a little bit. I'd say go for it!

Okay, I've got a Patrol (not a Smuggler, but similar family values.. :^)

I'm using Ibis 741 rims, 41 external and 35 internal. No problems with any tires that i've used for clearance.

Right now i'm using DHR2 WT in the back, and it's a good fit, good clearance. I've also used the Hans Damff. No problems.

The wide rims (Derby are very similar to Ibis) are torsionally very good, and quite durable. I have a history of trashing rims at a rate of a couple pair per year, but the Ibis wheels are now over a year old, so i consider them to be pretty tough.

I've been running 35mm ID Nextie carbon rims on my 2015 Smuggler.

I recently blew up the rear rim and it is being replaced with a narrower 28mm ID rim.

Because of the limited tire clearance on the 2015 I don't feel a super-wide 35mm rim is the best option on this frame and the tires that tend to fit.

I'd recommend narrower.. at least on the rear.

Were you getting rub on the chainstays of your 2015 Smuggler? I have the same bike.

No.. For me the larger volume tires that work well with the wide rims would rub the seat stay bridge.

With the tires that fit the smuggler I've found the sidewalls are too exposed.. It's been tire carnage royale.

2015 smuggler with 35mm outer / 30mm inner diameter light bicycle rims

you have to watch the clearance on the rear but a 2.3 EXO DHRII fits but it's tight!
