    MTB Trail Cattleguards

This is a cattleguard Gallup Trails 2010 designed for mtb trail use. The purpose is to let bikes roll on through but keep the cows from walking through. Cattleguards are very common on roads in the western US and work well on bikes trails too. Saves a lot of gate opening and closing.

Thought I would share the design...

Sorry for the late reply... been in the mountains for the last week.

Any small local metal fabricating shop or trade school can easily produce them, though, and anyone is welcome to use the design. I clean the metal with acid, then let them patina (rust) naturally. This makes for a very organic looking and low maintenance finish here in the Southwest.

A feature of the design is that the pedals will strike the uprights before the handlebar will on most mountain bikes, enabling safer high speed passage. Set them 2" to 3" below the surface to allow for dirt compaction.

The small sculptures are a nice detail, too.

You didn't make it long enough... Horses might be able to leap across it, ha, don't want them...

    Kidding, kidding.
