Shimano Shadow rear derailleur question
I read to turn off the shadow lever when replacing a chain.
Well I replaced my wore out chain this weekend and after
I did I realized I left shadow turned on. Did I screw
something up by chance?
BTW, how often do you maintain that little clutch box anyway?
Mine hasn't seen wet and muddy conditions, and it's almost a
I highly doubt that you messed anything up. It's just easier to replace the chain with the clutch off.
I've only had my shadow plus derailleurs for a few months, so I haven't done any maintenance. It's fairly well sealed with a rubber seal between the cover cap and derailleur. Just checked mine out and it's clean inside, with just a light layer of white lithium grease. At some point, I might add some fresh grease, but it looks like that will be a while.
This is good to know. Thanks!
Nah, you didn't hurt anything.
Haven't had mine long either. As NCFisherman says, just add a little white lithium grease once in a while, and you will need to tighten the friction band eventually. There is a little adjustment bolt. People use pliers, but you really should have a 5.5mm open-end ignition wrench (I got a set of Craftsman Midget wrenches off eBay). 7/32" is pretty close.
