Santa Cruz cage bolt issue, help please

    Hey all.

I bought a used Santa Cruz Superlight over Christmas. It didn't come with a water cage so I bought one and when I went to install it I realized that one of the allen bolts would not come out. It just turns each way forever and doesn't loosen or tighten. It looks like the female bracket that accepts the bolt has come loose from the frame. Is there anyway to get this bolt out and to fix this?

    Thanks for for any suggestions.

Although that won't help you get it out. If the screw isn't seized in the rivnut you might be able to pinch the shoulder of the nut against the tube and get the screw to back out. An impact driver could help if you've got one.

Worst case scenario you drill it out and replace the whole thing.

^This. I used to sell rivnuts, and if the threads in it are stripped, best to drill it out. You must need to be certain of the drill size.

OP stated that it appeared that the rivenut was spinning in the frame which indicates the rivnut likely wasn't compressed enough before installation tool removal. If the rivnut is spinning in frame it might prove a real
B*tch to remove bolt. If you get the bolt out, then you can take above methods to tighten the rivnut.
