    hey there,

I am putting a list of tools together for my x-mas list and want to see if you think I should add anything.

I really like Pedros and would like to support them:

    what I own:

    • Stand
    • socket set
    • torx wrench set
    • L Hex Wrench Set-9 Pc
    • Y wrench

Wish list: Please add Pedros products:

    • External BB Socket
    • Universal Crank Remover with Handle
    • BB Socket-ISIS Compatiable
    • Pro Socket Handle 2.0
    • HG Socket without Pin

would you get a few cone wrenches. if so what sizes?

    thank you for your help,

i don't like pedros but if that's what you like then get it. i would pass on the pro socket handle and get a 12in adjustable or knipex pliers wrench. i would also get the cassette tool with the pin. cone wrench sizes to get are a 13 and 15. use a 17mm combo for the lock nut

thanks for the additions -- would you pass on the pro-socket handle because any socket set will work?

    Pedros'

I actually own a Pedros stand and LOVE it! As a shop mechanic, I find that it is kinder to any part of the bike that is in the clamp. Although I will admit that I do NOT clamp carbon FYI.

AS for tools, although their selection might be smaller than Parks; I still prefer Pedros to Park. I have broken three Park bottom bracket tools myself, one broke at the weld and two others simply broke. But having options is always a great thing, and other people may prefer Park or something else entirely. Have fun making your list!

the pro socket handle is single use. the flat stock handle is not comfortable when you need to lay down some torque. i would rather have a ratchet or breaker bar and 24mm socket. the ratchet or breaker bar have other uses

Get a good chain tool too. Also get a nice cable and housing cutter. Don't skimp on either of these.

I have a full set of cone wrenches and just don't use them that much.

The 15mm pedal wrench is nice to have. Might want to add the big nice-handled 6mm and 8mm hex wrenches too. Nice for pedals that don't have the 15mm interface outside of the crank arm.

Another nice specific tool to have is a fork cutting guide and star nut setter. The headset removal tools are awesome also. They make all those jobs much nicer.

    Have fun!

I do like their external BB socket. It fits a little snugger than the equivalent Park Tool model and it has external knurling to help you turn it by hand. Be aware it's for 1/2" drive, although I consider that a plus since I have a 1/2" drive breaker bar and my fav Craftsman #44816 flex-head ratchet, which functions as a speeder handle in the 90°-flexed position. At the LBS, we remove BBs and liberally grease their threads during assembly, so the good fit, leverage, speeder function and knurling are really beneficial.

Like lanpope said, Pedros's star-nut setter is also a good tool if you do fork installations. And their BB-socket holder-on'er tool is nice when I have an extra-stubborn square-taper or Octalink BB to bust loose, and the tool needs to be held into the splines.

I really like my Pedros cone wrenches even though I have cartridge bearing hubs on most of my bikes now. From memory I think 15mm and 17mm are the ones you want. I like them because they're hardened and laser cut AND thin. Other than a little greasy or worn, the actual toolface itself is like new after maybe 5 years. One Pedros product to be sure to keep off your list would be their rim tape. It is crappy stuff. Wow.
