Hey All,
I have a set of Mavic Crossmax's that I love but have a nagging issue. I have had the rear bearings tightened several times and after about 5 rides or so, the nagging (albeit small) freeplay at the axle comes back. Is there any way of permanently solving this issue? Locktite on something perhaps? Curious to see if any of you have encountered this on Mavic hubs?
:madman:
Yup...Mavic's curse. Ever wonder why thier hub adjusting tool is also a tire lever. Wonder no more. a little locktite on the threads of that adjusting nut/cap helps. Now every time you go on a group ride, just check out anyone who's riding Mavics hubs. You'll find the entire Mavic customer base is rolling around on whobbly wheels. Also make sure you follow the 100 hour reapply mineral oil in freehub. It's easy to do and very important.
Well...Got it back from the shop. Freehub looked good, just gummed up. Clicks LOUD now! lol. AND, they put a dab of loctite on the bearing preload ring. Should be good to go! Looking forward to getting her out on the trail this weekend.
Also, with regards to the freehub...the guy showed me, and as expected and advised, no tool. Just two 5mm allens, remove axle, and it comes right off as you pull it away from the hub. Seems simple and next time I'm going to do it. So mineral oil eh?
Yup. NO GREASE. Mineral oil. Watch out for the springs behind the pawls. If your karma isn't good they'll disapear.
