For the amount I use my tools, cheap ones work fine. In a perfect world nothing would break or need maintenance and I would never need to use them.
HF = Bikes Direct, keep aiming high boys.
Went in to my local HF for the first time.
Picked up a set of the T handled allens, the one both metric and SAE.
Of course it was the last one they had and it was missing a wrench (SAE so Im kinda OK with it).
The counter lady nicely threw in a cheapo LED flashlight for the trouble.
I figure since I bought it f--kd up, I'm magically protected from further catastrophe!
As for the Overall Tool Philosophy; not gonna buy mission critical stuff there,
but OH BOY, an experimenters paradise!
What, your gonna pay retail for your Pumpkin Trebuchet?
I'm SURE I can come up with a hydraulic log lifter for trail clearing for under $50.
That article was hysterical. When I worked in my family business, I was a total Snap on junkie. I bought the big pry bar set, my Dad bought the HF one. I bought the big Snap on 3/4" drive set for 1800 dollars, my Dad bought the Pittsburgh set for 69.
Oddly enough, I think he still has all that crap twenty years later. I don't think I would have trusted the safety of my hands to a Pittsburgh socket while torquing a Caterpillar flywheel bolt to 700 lb ft, but he always made a point of showing me his stuff did the same job mine did for a fraction of the cost.
At least, when I leave my tools to my son, he'll inherit something worth inheriting.
so....i got these tools yo.....
trying so hard to keep this thread alive....lol..

I've seen some of these American brands charge $30+ for a frickin wrench. A wrench!
I have a pair of pliers that cost $20+. They're nice, but really? Why so spensive?
