I worked at a shop that had one and it was pretty handy for removing hopelessly frozen fixed cups, I suppose it's only of any use on antiques now though.

I know what it's for and why it's better, I was curious why on earth he wanted one. Especially since the OP said he was pretty sure it would never get used. I don't remember the last time I needed to remove a fixed cup, seized or not. For that matter I don't remember the last time I had a bike in the shop that had a square taper bottom bracket of any style.

I'm really glad the guys at EVT bother making these tools, so I don't have to!

Every week! Cyclus make one, in a different style, with flats that clamp onto the cup. A great design but made of terrible material which deforms with heavy use.

One for Abbey Tools this year?

I'm not going to waste time developing tools for components that the industry abandoned two plus decades ago. My thought is that 99.9% of the people that need this tool already have it. No sense in me making them to sell a couple dozen a year.

I know man, just joking! Your market certainly seems to be modern stuff which is appropriate, given it's 2014. I'll have a machinist make up an improvement on the cyclus tool.
