    Headset gap

I just picked up a used ibis mojo hd and noticed there's quite a gap between the headset and the frame. Is this normal? Seems like dirt will get in easily. Am I missing a spacer/shield?

It sits a little closer without the compression ring and I also noticed the ring is not fully compressed to the point where the ends touch, but there's no play in the steerer. Do I need a different ring?

Headset is a cane creek xxii.

Under the top piece are there a bunch of little micro silver spacers? If there are pull a few out.

    Re: Headset gap

Nope. Only the compression ring. Bearings, compression ring, then the cap. Also made sure the bearings aren't upside down.

Something is wrong there. Check on their online instructions for proper installation. Let us know what you find.

    Re: Headset gap

Thanks for the replies. That's not the bearing but maybe it's been pressed in upside down. Here are some more pics.

Notice the compression ring has a small gap and isn't full pushed in. Not sure if that's causing it.

Here the bearing is loose. The angled side is properly facing down.

I also measured the tube and it is fully tapered down to 1 1/8" at that point.

I'll contact cane creek on monday to see if I'm missing a spacer or something. Couldn't find exact instructions for the xxii headset.

    Heard from Cane Creek today:

Looks like someone gave a bunch of mixed up parts. That top cup is from one headset and the XIIX top cover is from another. We never even made an XIIX model for a 44mm ID head tube, which is what your Mojo has. From the looks of it, that's actually a bottom cup for a 44mm head tube installed on the top. If the bottom looks OK, i would suggest getting a new ZS44/28.6 Top assembly. You may want to get a whole new headset to be sure. The Bottom would be a EC49/40.

to CC for the quick response. Will definitely pick up a new headset from them and hopefully a CCDBA soon
