    Cannondale F400 handlebars

    Hello all,

I have a Cannondale F400 and the handlebars and the tire easily operate independently of one another. I cannot figure out how to tighten the handlebars so they don't rotate.

I was mountain biking yesterday and the tire would hit a rock and go one way while my handlebars would go another. I would like to correct this fault as soon as possible.

I have RockSchock Quadra 10 on the front forks.

    Any advice is most appreciated.

    Two (three, really) things:

Hang the bike from a rack (bike rack or workstand) and grab above the headtube and below. Try rocking back and forth. If you feel clunking, loosen the two bolts at the rear of the stem (facing you as you are on the bike), add a quarter turn to the bolt on the top of the steer tube. Repeat until the clunking goes away. At this point, sight down the clamp area of the handlebars towards your fork dropouts, and align the bar with them (perpendicular to the wheel).

Now, tighten the two pinch bolts you loosened earlier. A torque wrench to 5-6Nm would be good (or what is printed on the stem), but 'tight' also works, within reason.
