My guess is several members of the All-mountain Gong Show will be present for many of those dates....FM and EB would know more on that...

Still not clear on my schedule. I'm really hoping to make some of these rides.

I think there's a high chance of the All Mountain Gong Show being there, Geo. Since this coincides with the biggest contest/festival of the year, there'll be a big Seattle contingent up there for sure.

My tentative schedule right now looks like:
    • Arrive Thursday night (the 26th)
    • Friday (likely in the park after doing a bit of work in the AM). This is mostly dependent on what they have going on. If there are a bunch of trails closed for events, I'll go for an "XC" ride.
    • Saturday and Sunday - ride out of the park with enough time to get back and watch the crankworx stuff. This could include doing Khyber Pass or Gargamel.
    • Monday - Friday - crashing in my van at my buddy's house. I'll work during the days with riding after 3 PM each day (mix of park and valley trails). Might do the "Phat Wednesday" dh race and the Loonie race on Thursday night.
    • Saturday and Sunday - Ride, ride, ride.

Whafe / Mintsauce, you might be bummed that more of the titus guys couldn't pull the trigger since you're traveling halfway across the globe, but you'll come away from Whistler more stoked on riding than ever before and your skills are gonna go up a couple of notches......I guarantee it. I did 2 weeks in the Alps last summer and, while the quantity of trails were incredible, the general quality of them wasn't anywhere near as good, imo. It gave me a whole new appreciation for what we've got up here. Looking forward to the debauchery!

    Cheers,
    EB

    Bummer dude!

I was so much looking forward to it but I have to go to training for work I'm finally getting back to a plane I was flying a year ago (bumped back to a turboprop during my companies bankruptcy). Instead of having a short retraining course I have to go back for the full course. I'm gonna be bored as hell thinking about all you guys riding beautiful BC single track

FM - Am gonna try to come out before or after so hopefully we can hook up. My bro still hasn't ridden this year so I need to get his ass on some singletrack.

Hey EB....still totally stoked to be going! If you're cool with dragging an average rider along it would be sweet to join you for some rides before the other guys arrive

I have volunteered some shifts for Crankworx as well. Just a few as I am going there to ride after all. Looking forward to that as well. Love working at MTB events.

Am slightly nervous about hitting the park. But must just force myself to not ride over my limits. Have no desire to put myself in hospital early in this trip I've come close once or twice!

It's just around the corner now

another thing to blame the homers for is breaking of MTBR tradition by not calling a gathering a Gathering. . Thats what they've always been called here on the mtbr and there are several every year. The only problem with declaring a gathering is that then you have to be organized, .

I hear ya airwreck...... All due respect to the Turner team, they get great numbers to their gatherings...... Do a good job really...............

Well it may get moving for the Titus riders, everything takes a little time to gain momentum....

    what about:
sunday the 29th: mt fromme. I woudl drive up that morning, and we could possibly head to whistler that night for extended play (or do an evening seymour shuttle)

July 30-31 (monday / tuesday) whistler. Bike park or trails, maybe both, TBD. I would be heading back to seattle tuesday evening.

FM, that sounds sweet.... What is a town close to mt fromme for me to stay at on the Sat 28th night. Or is it better to go straight to Whistler from Vancouver airport, then drive to mt fromme trail head on Sunday morning?

    Yeah ha...............

Fromme is in North Vancouver (uh, North Shore ). You could stay anywhere in Vancouver if you wanted to check out the city.

You could stay in North Vancouver or Deep Cove if you wanted to be a little closer.

Deep Cove is little waterfront community. It's nice, but will be difficult to find reasonably affordable lodging. It is the tourist season in Vancouver and hotel prices reflect that...Whistler hotels are way cheaper this time of year. If you're just looking for a place for jet-lag recovery, I'd look for a Travelodge or Comfort Inn in North Van if it were me, but I'm cheap.

    Hey dudes,

    who all is in?

I'm considering a change of plans if it's a small crew and everybody's cool with it. My good buddy Matt (slayerulez, highlife crew/ all mountain gong show gold-card member) will be in whistler, leaving monday the 30th. What if we were to go up to whistler satuday night (28th), ride whistler sunday and monday, and ride the shore on tuesday? Then I would head back to Seattle tuesday night.

Crisillo, very good thought. We have been working on this. I believe that nesy year we will aim to have a Titus Group Ride sometime after Interbike, this fits better with Titus...

Have not heard anything from Titus in regards to organising something from them as a company..

All good that yeti are sorting something for the Yeti customers..

EB, I'm shooting for an early departure on the 26th and hope to get a few runs in the bike park w/ extended play. That is if I can find FM's gold pass. I'm off to exit ## to look by the river. I thinks that's were I saw it last.....

Let's try and coordinate something for Fri. and Sat. I'll probably leave Sunday at some point.

Hope to meet some of you Titus jokers up there. GOOD TIMES!

Well, otherwise this is all shaping up nicely! I can come up saturday the 28th and stay through tuesday. My sister is not coming up, but is staying with me in Seattle until the 27th. I'll be sleeping in the van up in whistler. Matt, hopefully you can stay till monday? It would be rad if we all hit khyber pass on sunday!

O.K. not funny. It's safe. Thanks again for that. Major Props!

Monday's looking not good. Maybe I can convince the family for a late Sunday departure. Hey, I'm 100% positive we'll have plenty of room for you and fam on Saturday, need be.

Schweet! Right now, it's looking like I'll be up there late on Thursday, but that might change if I can finagle it somehow. FYI, Jubilee is leaving Seattle at 5 AM on Thursday with the intent on shredding all day in the park......hook up with him fo shizzle. Perhaps a late morning departure would be in order after all?

No matter what, I'll be riding in the park on Friday (all day). Saturday will be an "out of the park" day for me to avoid the chaos with the thought of getting back in time for the slopestyle finals which usually starts around 5. A nice westside ride like RRTI, Flank, Cheap Thrills, Danimal to a swim at Alta or Nita Lake would be nice, but I could be talked into several other options. Then, pile into the boneyard with a cooler of malted beverages and watch the debauchery ensue (and I'm not talking about the slopestyle either!).

Minty, if you're already up there, let's hook up before the other guys roll into town.

    Peace,
    EB

    Phew! All good.

sunday late departure for you would be fine- I am just thinking sunday might be an ideal day to hit khyber pass. Who knows, it may still be under snow- plenty of snow on it when I was up last week.

With a big crew, we should budget all day to do it, especially if you have to take off early.

Whafe, go straight to whistler, thats my plan since
EBX, slayer and other buddies will already be there.

PM me your phone number. I don't get cel service in BC, but I can call you saturday on my way up before I cross the border.

Maybe we should all plan on 10am sunday 29th at GLC.

Garibaldi Lift Company. It's a restaurant with a deck that overlooks the park. Great people watching while drinking beers. I assume FM just means to meet down in front of it by the Customer Relations office (near the ticket window) and not up at the restaurant itself.

The lift actually opens at 9 on weekends so folks could easily get a run or two in before meeting up. Me. I'm a realist and know what Saturday night at Crankworx means and 10 might be pushing it as is.

Whafe look into the HI Hostel on Alta Lake.

Yes, we can drink our morning beer on the lift ride up

It's a ways off so I expect we will fine tune before then... I'll be making calls saturday night on the way up. Hopefully we can all connect for some saturday night shennanigans.

    Foam Pit!

    Hey guys,

Just thought I'd throw this out to ya'll in case there's any interest.

I'm thinking I'm going to do a weeknight in the foam pit. The cost is $15 for a 3 hour session and they don't allow more than 30 people in at a time. Word on the street is that 3 hours even with a sold out session is plenty of time to get your jump on, but I'd think mid-week wouldn't be as busy.....

It'd be a great excuse to get in and practice jumping and tricks.
    http://www.whistlerbike.com/informat...dome/index.htm

I figure I'll do it either Monday or Tuesday night.

    Cheers,
    EB

    Bad News/Good News

Was texting back and forth with Minty yesterday (good as we can get ahold of him that way without having to use the phones). Sounds like he'll be in Whistler tomorrow at some point.

The bad news: It's going to be pouring rain for the next few days (after several weeks of scorching weather, the skies opened up the past few days). I guess he'll get the PNW intro proper style!

The good news: trails should be in much better condition overall for folks visit and during the crankworx timeframe. Things were already starting to get dusty/loose down lower in the park from the last reports. Also, it should keep any fire closures from trails outside of the park from taking place for the near future. Good news for the xc riding.

    Cheers,
    EB

    I'm toast....

....got to Vancouver 4hrs ago. Had a good sleep on the way to London as it was at night, but hardly got any shuteye from there to Van. Can't wait to hit the bed. Just got back to the hotel from a quick dinner.

Catching the bus to Whistler in the morning

Yes....it is raining indeed. Not a big problem....it's not like I'll melt. True what you're saying about the trail condition EB. A trail is never more buffed than a day or three after rain.

    See you guys soon!

You could say I am 'stoked'

Got here at about 1 this afternoon. Had my bike assembled by 2. Just hit the Lost Lake trails today. Really enjoyed it. From what I gather this is pretty much the bottom of the ladder as far as Whistler riding goes. Still really enjoyed it. As good as or better than anything i've ridden in S.Africa w.r.t the quality (read:build and layout) of the trail.

Can't wait to see what else is out there. Will hit some more of the Valley Trails in the week.

    Oh.....one more thing......

Im up for Fromme on the 29th. Assuming my POS Deore front derailler hold together. Plan on Driving up Thursday, arrive midday, catch some of the scene. Park maybe Fri/Sat. Will try to coordinate with you all. I'll have the cell phone, out of country fees, but should help nonetheless.

Ok, here is a summary of the thread and who is coming when and where (since I couldnít figure it out without writing it down, forgive any typos or bad info)

    7/21 Crankworx begins!
7/25 Wed: Today. I plan to drive up sometime around midnight sleep in my truck 2-3 hours then drive on up to Whistler.
7/26 Thurs: Ride in the AM. EB and SlayerRulz arrive in the evening
7/27 Friday: Park, try to hook up with EB, Slayer. Jubilee arrives.
7/28 Sat: XC ride with EB: Kyber pass or Gargamel, return to watch Crankworx, hook up with Whafe, who arrives at 2:30pm Vancover Int airport. (5-6pm?)
7/29 Sun: Meet at 10am at GLC: Whafe/RDH/EB/FM/Mintsauce for Mt Fromme ride, will be a good grind, and we are going to need many MANY beers afterwards for post-ride carbo-loading purposes
7/30 Mon: SlayerRulz leave. Ride Park/rest early day. Jump park with EB/Whafe/Mint?
7/31 Tues: Northshore ride with FM, FM leave for Seattle after ride, possible evening Jump Park/Hot Aussie women hangout
8/1 Wed: up in the air. Phat Wed DH race to watch
8/2 TH: Loonie race in the evening RDH might leave this night
    8/3 Fri: Geolover coming?
8/4 Sat: Whafe leaves, official end to a great trip.

    Additional notes:
-I have sent via PM my cell phone number to a few of you. I will look into buying a Motorola Talk-about phone, but might just do the text thing.
-Safety=fun. To reiterate what Mintsauce said, I promise myself to ride within my limits and progress at my own pace so that I donít have a shattered arm like the last person I took to Whistler.

    Lodging:
I think Endo Often and myself (RDH) still havenít figured out where to crash. I think Geolover promised me a harem of hottie harlets on hardtails to tend to my afterhours needsÖbut since he isnít coming till maybe Friday next week, I am SOL.

7/29 Sun: Meet at 10am at GLC: Whafe/RDH/EB/FM/Mintsauce for Mt Fromme ride, will be a good grind, and we are going to need many MANY beers afterwards for post-ride carbo-loading purposes

fromme's in vouncouver, we'll be in whistler. This might be a park day, maybe khyber pass or the west side. Lets see who shows, what the conditions are and what people are up for!

7/30 Mon: SlayerRulz leave. Ride Park/rest early day. Jump park with EB/Whafe/Mint?

    Additional notes:
-I have sent via PM my cell phone number to a few of you. I will look into buying a Motorola Talk-about phone, but might just do the text thing.
-Safety=fun. To reiterate what Mintsauce said, I promise myself to ride within my limits and progress at my own pace so that I don’t have a shattered arm like the last person I took to Whistler.

    Lodging:
I think Endo Often and myself (RDH) still haven’t figured out where to crash. I think Geolover promised me a harem of hottie harlets on hardtails to tend to my afterhours needs…but since he isn’t coming till maybe Friday next week, I am SOL. Any of you folks have a couch or floor, I’ll buy you some sushi and sake, or a burger and beers whatever your preference.
Got your phone #. I get no reception up north, so I'll just be looking for you guys near the bottom of the gondola at 10am.

    Ridedhfreethought,

Nice writeup dude. My schedule will definitely be fluid and I'll go with the flow.

A few things. I will stay in Whistler on Sunday instead of hitting the Shore. Not sure if that means park, but it would probably mean some xc if things are still chaotic around there. Ride for Sunday might depend more on the Saturday night debauchery more than anything! ;-)

Saturday - Khyber won't happen. Too much snow up top....just heard that from two locals. I'm gonna do a ride on the Westside. Cheap Thrills, River Runs Through It, Danimal and a swim in Alta or Nita Lake before watching the slopestyle. We can chat about it on Friday too.

Foam pit. I might do that monday or tuesday night.

Wednesday - Phat DH race - this is cancelled these couple of weeks due to all of the crankworx craziness. So that means either some park or xc in the evening for me.

Thursday - Loonie Race. I really want to do this, but it requires a WORCA membership and I'm not sure I want to pay $40 for the membership to do this race once. I might suck it up though since I'll likely be up one or two thursdays, but not sure yet.

I'd offer up a place to stay, but I'm crashing with a buddy (and our wives) and we have people staying on couches already. BTW, we use channel 5:29 on the radios. I'll be in the park no later than 10 AM on Friday.

    Peace,
    EB

    Crankworkx is going off!!

Damn, this place is hoppin' !!!

All the celebs are here: Cowan is hosting the event. Saw some slopestyle qualifiers yesterday in the lift line. The girls were way better jumpers than me. That brings to an observation that Canada must have the most hotties per capita in the world, dang!

So far I;ve managaed to tear off a cable, break my rear derailler, and I almost lost a suspension bolt...and I haven't even crashed yet.

Ok time to ride, see you all there.

Whassup fellas? I'm hanging at Behind the Grind right now grabbing a bite and a coffee. Hit the park all day yesterday. It was busy, but the people watching was great and we got a ton of laps in. I hoped to meet up with Minty who was working the dual slalom, but it didn't pan out. We did get to see a ton of pro's riding in the dual slalom (which they didn't complete due to the light waning)......Lopes is so f'ing smooth, it always trips me out.

Hooked up with Joel (Singletrack), slayerrulz, jubilee, Armando and various others from the all mountain gong show for a bunch of laps. Also, got a run with Kyle from Transition on his proto Blindside. Good times.

We're gonna go out of the park for an xc ride. Plan is to hit RRTI, Cheap Thrills, Danimal and get a swim in at Nita Lake. We're gonna gather around 10'ish. Yeaaaah Boyyeeeee. RDH, if you have a radio, we're on 5:29 and you can reach me on that.
