    shimano xt brake squeal

Got a new Motolite last fall, I've been happy with everything except the rear brake, which has a horrid squeal that neither I nor two shops have been successful at eliminating. Any advice? The brakes are Shimano XT's. If anyone can point me to online tutorials, that'd be helpful as well, especially something basic enough to teach me easy things like replacing the pads.

    Thanks

If you have metal pads you are gonna get some squeal. Resin is better but for me the resin only last about a month or two.

Brake squeel can be fixed by cleaning the rotors (disc brake cleaner or alchol) and sanding the braking surfaces on the pads. After you sand the pads you will need to re-seat the pads with gentle braking for a little bit.

This usually does it but some brakes just make noise.

Try the cool stop pads. Never had a problem.
