Good job! Karma Bike Related Kit, To give or I need Thread

    Hi All.

You may have read in previous posts, threads an idea that a number of MTBR buddies came up with in regards to many of us having components, tires or basically bike related kit that maybe lying around or surplus to our requirements..

Many of us do not want money for these items, we would like them to go to a good home of a fellow biker whom for some (many) reason is unable to get there steed up and running to ride.... Or you have a friend etc, whom cannot get into our sport and you feel would be worthy to recieve a bike etc...

There are numerous thoughts etc, but am sure you have gained an understanding to our idea.

The idea behind this is to help our fellow humans, we do not wish people to just take something because it is for free... Hence the Karma wording, if you just take for the wrong reason, the Karma bus will come and get you!

We are looking at this from a positve view point , we are not wanting to get bogged down in the negatives as to why this will not work...

    Some guidelines:

Please post the items you wish to give away.

Please post items you would like or need.

The MTBR member whom has the item /s to give away, has the final say as to whom they give the item /s to.

Some MTBR members would like the reason etc as to why you need the item or why the MTBR member listing an item should give it to you, this is up to the member to decide..

Please attempt to keep back and forward messages of negotiation, reasons etc to PM's so as we can keep the thread containing items for give away or items wanted... For sure post how the transaction went so to speak or infor that you feel is pertinent....

A Whafe disclaimer ( ) These are just thoughts, let me know if I should modify things, this can be done, this is an idea based on giving to those whom need etc, it will take time to get it into a smoorth running thing.......

Good enough for me. Please, let me know your thoughts.

It's a sticky now and I still have a Magura Julie 2002 brakeset, perfect for that girlfriend, light dude or kid in need of a set of discs.

They're thrashed, but they work perfectly and they're just rotting in my parts bin.

I have tires, down hill, xc and 29er, seats, seatpost, wheel sets, front fork, hydration packs, a Trek 6000 bike, hubs, and many, many other things. I may even include a Specialized Enduro Comp with upgraded wheels and front fork. The bikes will be purposefully very hard to get but they are up for grabs.

I have two frames, one Trek 6000 17" Alu Hardtail in decent contdition, and a KHS XC504 4" travel frame with a Swinger 3-way air shock. I also have a bunch of odd drivetrain comps, v-brakes, etc that I will give away to anyone who really wants them.

    I'm looking for...

A Pike Air or All Mountain I or SL with a 20 mm axle. I'd trade my Revelation 426 Dual air for it plus some cash if needed. I'm looking for something with a 20 mm axle.

Its a small, 16". red/white/black. If its getting built up for your wife, I require pics of her on it with as little clothing on as possible.

Just totally and completely kidding. Does your wife ride now, or are you trying to intro her to the sport?

We need to get the word to the other forums and get those deserving people to contact us. I have sent out one package. Just tires but I have a lot of other stuff but no one has contacted me. Like some young kid wanting to get in the sport or etc......

I'm looking for a set of speedplay frogs, or any time ATACs in decent shape for pretty cheap. I'm having a hard time choosing a pedal right now, so I'd like to try these before I buy a new set.

I also have a set of IRC Mythos 2.1 tires. If someone wants them and can pay shipping, they are yours. They probably have 20 miles on them in the 2 years Ive had them.

Also have 1 WTB nanoraptor. Its either a 2.0 or 2.1. Also free if you pay shipping. It has some threads showing but has decent tread left. Would make a great tire for a beater or a commuter.

    Riding in Iraq

If you really want some karma points you can send your excess parts to me here on FOB Marez in Mosul Iraq. I know it looks pretty crappy asking for hand outs on my first post here. The last time I posted on MTBR was probably around 1999-2000, but being in Iraq with my bike has re-energized my riding. My friends and I have 5 bikes that we ride most everyday. Other than the bike I brought from home, most of them have been passed down from unit to unit and are in poor shape. Tubes, tires, brake pads and grips are all in bad shape due to the sun and 100 plus degree temperature.

The riding here is mostly broken pavement, dirt roads, and a little cross country off road thrown into the mix. If I could get the lazy asses I work with to help Iíd be able to get some good single track built as there is some really cool terrain here.

If anyone would like to help out PM me, and Iíll send you the address. Shipping is to an Army Post Office, so itís not anymore expensive than shipping something to the east coast. The only thing is a customs form needs to be filled out.

Wow! This is such an awesome idea for a thread.

I have only been a member of this site for a short time, but the knowledge and generosity I have seen from the members here is incredible. I too hope to be able to give back as you gents are. Truly admirable!

I will throw my story out here in hopes that Karma will be good to me.

I used to be an avid biker. Nothing hardcore, but I rode nearly everyday. I was pretty heavy into BMX riding and toward the end, I dabbled a bit with mountain biking. Life and work got in the way and mountain biking got put on the back burner. Now after 20 or so odd years, I am trying to get back into things. Needless to say after 20 years I was a bit sticker shocked at how much a decent hardtail mountain bike is going to cost. I am slowly working my way up to a point where I can buy a new bike. My goal is around $400 and if I sell some stuff, I should be there in a few months.

My main objective with getting back into mountain biking is to get back into shape. Being able to spend time with my wife and son as well as being able to venture out on my own would be a much needed benefit.

I guess I need to add what item(s) I need.
A hard tail mountain bike to get me going again would be incredible. However, some components to upgrade a bike when I could afford to buy one would be killer too.

EDDIE JONES suggested I post here in this tread.

I have a bad knee. I ride on M520 pedals and quite often after I ride my left knee hurts. I have made minor changes to my cleat and seat position. This has help out a great deal in reducing the pain after the ride. It went from where I would limp a little on it and grit my teeth to a dual pain I just bothers me a little but I can walk and move around normally. I want to try a pair of Time ATAC pedals because of the additional float and allow for some side to side movement in hopes of reducing the knee pain even more to even removing it. I know in time it is only going to get worse so anything I can do to it now would be great.

I ride a 07 Rockhopper base with a pair of m520 pedals and an M770 crank as the 2 upgrades done to it. I am going to add I am a college student in his last semester of school. Right now my funds are stretch paper thin. I can barely afford to maintain my bike and even that is in jeopardy.

What I am asking for is a pair of times ATAC pedals w/cleats to put on my bike in hopes of reducing my knee pain.

Also I have a used dual pull XT m760 derailleur 34.1mm high clamp that I pick up pick up very cheaply thinking it might fit my bike. Well my bike is a 31 mm clamp is needed so I going to put it up for anyone who needs it with a good reason.

Just for the record, and because Eddie is so humble he'll never make a huge deal about it... But this is just another Karma giveaway he's given.

The wife of a close friend of mine will be riding a very nice Manitou Black thanks to him... To replace her (awful, sorry but it had to be said) Suntour XCP-75.

She's a passionate girl who may not ride each and every other Sunday, or will make drops and such; but she's crossed the Sierra Madre of Mexico along with his husband.

Thank you Eddie... this world is better because of you.

I willing to try them out. They have an extra 2-3 degrees over my M520s and I have learned even very minor changes can make a huge deal.

Best case they fix my problem completely and I have no need to try anything else so my M520s will get karma off to some one.

Worse case I pur my M520s back on and the candys will get karma off to some else in need. Around here where I live it has a University in it with a fair number of riders so finding some on in need would not be a problem with the rule attach to them of pass it on.

Lastly I have to say this thread is great and word does need to get out more about it. It a great way to help out some one in need. I aways have a rule attach to anything I give away like this. It is pass it on and do the same for some else when you can.

As for Eddie Jones I have to say he is a true inspiration of how this works and I hope one day to be able to do the same.

Hey, this is a nice idea.

If anyone has a back wheel laying around that can fit an 8 spd cassette, my sister just got back from the peace corps and sometime while she was gone I guess one of my parents backed into her bike, tacoing the wheel. Any wheel would do, she just wants ot get it working again and I can't seem to find much to offer her in terms of new that isn't outrageously expensive for a Peace Corps Volunteer. Thanks for looking!

This thread is pretty cool. Although the cynic in me thinks there will be some people taking advantage of the generosity of others. Hard to avoid.

Just for Titus riders, I have a pair of ti canti posts (the ones that screw into the seatstay) for anyone still on V brakes that actually needs them.

I could really use two Goodridge copper crush washers for my Hope Mini levers. They're smaller than the Hope crush washers, which I learned the hard way. Or if anyone knows where I can buy them, please let me know.

Folks - I posted the below in "Wheels and Tires' forum, and someone commented that I should post it here. Please check it out!!! THANKS!

    Hey all -

You may have seen previous posts from me on other forums. I am trying to build a nice hardtail for my little brother (through the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Denver program) out of donated parts. He's really getting into the sport with me, but comes from a family that is flat broke.

Some amazing folks from this and other forums have donated enough parts for me to build a very decent bike for him. (HUGE thanks to the major donator BARRY C!). The only thing I am missing now is wheels !!

One of the donations I got was a set of Avid BB5s, and I am having a hard time finding a used/inexpensive disc compatible wheelset. I have gone to a few of the bike donation houses in Denver, but most places only have v-brake compatible wheels. I'd really like to make use of the donated discs I got for him.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm in Denver.

    Thanks and take care,
    Dave

    By the way -

I failed to mention that in this bike building endeavor, I do have a few spare parts left over that I'd be happy to ship off to anyone else who has a good use for them. Some (but not all) of the items are below. If you are looking for something specific drop me an email and I'll let you know if I have it.

    - a used rock shox fork off of a Tassajara (steerer too short for me to use 6 3/4")
    - 8-speed MTB cassette (used good shape)
    - misc cables/housing
    - spare canecreek s-2 headset bearings (x2)

    thanks

Huge Thanks - Karma At Work For My Little Bro

    Karmanites!!!

Over the winter, various kind souls, including EDDIE JONES from this list contributed bits and pieces of a hardtail mountain bike for my little brother, David, through the Denver Big Brothers Big Sisters program. David is 14, and comes from a flat-broke single-parent home.

Well the bike came together nicely (see pics) and we just took our first ride since he got over a broken wrist. Of course, him at 14, and me at 30, he kicked my ass on the 700ft climb (we rode a short 5-mile loop in Evergreen, CO).

He said he absolutely loves his new bike and is looking forward to (at least) a summer filled with mountain biking. He was never able to enjoy such a sport before with his Kmart 50lb fully-rigid.

So a huge thanks to everyone who helped, and a note of support for this forum and others like it.

    Ride hard!!!
    Dave and Little Dave

I'll try and post some better action shots after our next trip. I forgot my camera and took a few with my phone.

This may not belong in the karma thread but I've got a couple parts I'm looking for. I picked up a hardtail frame that I'm putting together out of parts I had laying around. It will mainly be a loaner bike and to try bringing new riders into our sport. I'm sure I would occasionally use it as a grocery getter. To complete the project I need a Sram rear derailleur and a 34.9 clamp front derailleur.

I have a few parts to offer. They include an older RST 281R fork and a set of IRC Mythos 2.1 tires (f&r). There could be more but that is all I can think of off the top of my head.

Edit: I don't mind paying shipping or a small fee for the parts. I'm trying to keep the project as cheap as possible.

I've got Tyres and a Stem

I assume it's ok to still post stuff here...

Pair of Geax Barro Mountain. No more than 50 miles on them. Great condition.

Thomson Elite Stem 130mm black. Scratched but works fine.

Oh and thanks again to Eddie for the fork.
It's not been used much since the baby arrived, but my wife should be back in the saddle soon. Hmm, suppose I've also got an '04 Manitou Axel fork if anybody wants it.
