    Drivetrain..will this work?

    G'Day

I have a 2008 Motolite2 and ride lots of AM and rocky XC and known to break components

I find that I rarely use my outer ring.

Yesterday I minced my XT derallieur.........

Plan.... Middleburn RS7 Crank with Middleburn 22/34 rings with an E13 Supercharger Bashguard on the outside. Rear-end standard SLX Cassette with a Short Cage Shimano Saint.

    Strength is my aim

    Thoughts..... any potential problems?

Oooh and I love the Motolite.

Lot's of folks run very similar setups, that's basically what I'm planning on running. The short cage rear may or may not take up all the slack, but are you ever really going to shift into little/little?

You will need a Mid cage Saint, the short cage only works with a road cassette.
If I disagree with you, it's because you are wrong.

Not sure about the road cassette as the New Saint (black with gold) has a feature called mode converter...

    This is from saint website.

    Maximum Sprocket: 28/34T
    Minimum Sprocket: 11T
    Front Difference: single front chainring
    Total Capacity: 17/23T

This should let me run normal rear cassette??

They don't seem to want you to run any front difference though, that could be a problem.

The instructions say no for your setup unless you run a single chainring.

I did some testing tonight and used my old xt crank and set limit adjust on front derallieur for 2 rings...... All went fine and worked the full gear range with no messy shifts or ghost shifting!

Will give it a hammering tomorrow night before putting the middleburn crank on!

Very crisp shifting and no chain slap or clatter on the rear end!
