Questions about Rocky Hill / Dirty Du

First time racer at Rocky Hill for the Dirty Du in a couple of weeks and have a couple of questions about the course and pedals. I've been on road bikes for years, and just bought an airborne guardian to start mtn biking. At 47 years old, I'm not going to be the fastest or most daring. I've been out to memorial park and can tackle all its trails with SPD pedals, and only a few times where being clipped in has been a problem.

Is clipping in at RHR recommended or am I asking for trouble? My bike came with Kenda Small Block 8's and from looking at threads, it seems like this would be an acceptable tire at RHR? Any tips on gear for RHR or regarding the Dirty Du? Thanks.

I have only ridden RHR once but it all seemed pretty smooth and flowy. I don't think you would have issues with clipless pedals or SB8s.

Prepare for roots covered in pine needles, with some rocks, and loose over hardback. If you use SB8's be sure to run a low pressure 25psi or lower if you won't damage your rim. Clipless is the only way to go.
