Night Rides in Austin?
Curious if places like Walnut Creek allow folks to do night riding or if the park closes at dark?
-
Yeah, people ride Walnut after dark all the time. There are even reflectors on some of the trees to mark corners. I wouldn't go out there in the middle of the night but I think before ten is fair game.

I use to live 8 minutes (by bike) from there and frequently rode there at night. Quite often I'd leave the house around 8:30-9pm once the kids went to sleep. I'd easily ride for 2 hrs and be back home around 11pm-ish. Never had any problems.
There are many many other places to go ride the same way at night.

Thanks folks.
I take it there's no "regular" night rides? Took a look at Bike Mojo and didn't see anything except the booze cruise.

Going to be picking up a Gloworm X2. Looks like we'll have to throw together some easy and fun night rides at Walnut Creek sometime soon!
-
As soon as it drys up, I'd be down for a night ride at Walnut Creek.
-
I happened across a group on thursday nights at walnut that said they have been doing it
for years. I think they meet at 830 or 9 at the pool lot.
Keep trying to do the awesomest thing you've ever done.

Excellent, thanks!
Just waiting to see the new Gloworm single light to see whether I should go with that or the popular X2.
Excited to go out and try to catch up with this group.

If you want to do a slow night lap at BLORA or Dana Peak sometime let me know a night or two in advance so I can throw the exposure lights on the charger.

Riding the Nut at night in a group is a good way to turn you off riding the Nut with a group. You will shed light on the insane amount of dust that gets generated there by just a few people.
Besides, you gotta step up your game when you night ride and hit up City Park, unmentionables, Thumper, BCBG back trails, heck even the fence and ridge line at St Ed's is pucker inducing at night.

I've done the Baja 1000 on a motorcycle. A little dust from mtbs won't bother me.

I just started doing some night riding (my first) at Barton Creek Greenbelt... man, it is spooky out there in the woods all alone. Lots of coyotes yipping and hollering!
It's cool that lights work well enough to open up all the extra hours to ride now that DST is over.

Well that sucked. Not a single damn person showed up! Empty parking lot.
Ended up riding an hour solo....
The new Gloworm light is awesome. Riding alone isn't.

I used to hit the park at 6am and do a lap before work. It's a bit spooky being there alone at times, but I prefer solo night riding to big groups. When it gets dusty it is really hard to see with lights, like driving in a snowstorm.

We have a group ride in lakeway at night, usually 20 people or so, pretty technical xc, everyone from pro xc guys to beginners. 10-12 miles, beers and pizza afterwards. Wednesday nights wheels down at 615

Sounds like a great time, thanks! Is there a place that lists the full details? (address, etc.)
This is exactly what I was looking for.
