    Free day in Hurst, TX

Any riding in/around Hurst? I probably won't have a car, might try to find a bike shop to rent a bike and see what's around. Road or Mtn is fine. Anything better than wasting a day in a hotel!

Never been there, but looks like River Legacy Park is probably your best (closest) bet.

That's my home town. Grew up there. No trails that I know of. River legacy in Arlington is closest. Then gateway or sansom park. North shore on lake grapevine are all within 20-30 minutes

River Legacy is boring but better than a hotel.

North Shore, in Grapevine, is way more fun and not much further but you will likely need a car to get to either.

Bike's Inc. in Hurst will rent you a bike.

For the most part RL is boring but there are a couple of offshoots that will test your mettle

I'm not sure how you plan on getting to the bike shop or where your hotel is, but depending on your time/energy/desire to hit Dallas dirt, you might try the local rail. There is a TRE station (rail) in Hurst. You can take it and connect to DART red line (Dallas rail). From there, you'd go to the Westmoreland exit and the Oak Cliff Nature Preserve trailhead is ~1/4 - 1/3 mile from the DART exit.

Thanks All. Looks like Bikes Inc only opens at 1 pm on Sundays (my free day), but I'll see if I can grab a bike and get some time in the saddle. I'll check all these links before I go!

Looks like I'll rent a car and try to get to Northshore.

Are there any shops that rent bikes and happen to open earlier than 1 pm on Sunday? I need to get back to the Hotel by about 4:00 for meetings.

You will be challenged to find something on Sunday. It might be worth trying to rent it on Saturday and then returning on Sunday. Northshore is the best close trail and you can't get lost. I'd loan you my bike if I hadn't dropped it off at the shop this afternoon.

Ha! Thanks! Maybe I'll buy a klunker on craigslist and donate it to someone when I leave!

    To follow up....

I happened to call Bicycles Plus in Flower Mound to rent a bike, and the guy told me about the Salsa demo going on at North Shore today. I was there at 10:30, demoed an El Mar and a Fargo and had a blast!

Great trail system (reminds me of Phil's World in Cortez, CO), and superb weather! Thanks for all of your help! Thanks to Bicycles plus for the tip, too!
