Emma Long/City Park Austin, TX drops
I'm doing Emma Long for the first time this weekend with a group. What are the drops like? Are most of them or any of them comparable to the Basket drop at Brushy Creek? Or are they more comparable to the drops at Madrone?

Its a technical trail. Be ready. Although you can bypass some. Its probably one of my favorites to ride.

I do ~80-100 laps a year and I am by no means a big hucker. I can roll every drop with no problem. The biggest challenge is actually having someone to show you the best line. I have had several people say that they gained confidence and speed just by having someone to follow so they could get the lines.

Stick on the wheel of someone that knows the trail and just follow their lines.

If you have flexibility for weekdays I am happy to take people out and show them the best lines; I've done it a lot.

Don't be scared, embrace it. There is nothing as bad as basket (which I won't even attempt). Basket is about having the balls and confidence (I have neither). At city park the drops are smaller, but more technical so you really need to watch what you are doing. And a dropper post doesn't hurt ;)

Yep your page is the first place I went to get info on the trail. However, as I learned from basket, picture and video can be misleading.

I should add I'm not afraid of drops or technical riding. Madrone was awesome as well as brushy creek. It's just that drops like basket scare the **** out of me, lol. What about hardtails on this trail, how's that?

Back when I was younger I rode it on a hardtail, but I am an old guy now. There is nothing like basket

CP is much different. The Basket is a steep drop with a nice rollout. Most of the bigger drops at CP are to a flat transition and sometimes followed by another drop or two. They are all rollable, but some push the limits especially if you take a bad line. The trail is very wide at the tech features and there are several line choices but not a lot of those chunky babyhead wheel-grabbers. So, if you do get a little out of control, it is not as likely you will immediately hit a tree or rock garden. It's one of my favorite trails and a great confidence builder.

29er? Gonna be rough. You dont see many hardtails out there. Just ride within your limits. Best part is put in a good ride then go to ski shores for a burger after.

I will probably be up for a quick lap early on Saturday. 8 or 8:30, have stuff to do later, if anyone wants to learn the trail.

I also work from home, so I can be pretty flexible in the middle of the week if you give me enough notice.

Yeah so that place was tough. The drops were no big deal. I didn't walk anything at least and had a blast. The climbs on the other hand. Holy ****. I respect anyone who goes out there and does laps. I walked a lot of the climbs, didn't help I was congested to all hell but I just did not want to miss out on this group ride. Also saw a dirt biker pass us, that looked pretty awesome too. When we started there was a guy out in the parking lot on a rigid SS, I can't imagine.

We like to mess around in the parking lot and drop off those ledges after a lap or 2.
