Surly 1x1 as a monster cross?

well, i have 2008 1x1 frame sets, size 18. and i know 1x1 is so great
it fits 26", 650b, 700c and even 29er. but after i seeing this:

i decide to having an experiment to converting 1x1 as a monster cross bike because, i love speeding, and i also love dirt and singletrack.
    now my question is:
    - what 29er tyre that i should pick? my friend say WTB nanoraptor 2,1 would good, but i'm afraid the dropout clearance gonna be so edgy. i also have plan to make it multi speed (1x9)
so i worried i cannot use RD hanger like this:

so? any suggestions? and please don't tell me to get a new frameset like karate monkey because i dont have any budget left to buy a new frame

The only clearance issue I had when running 29er tires (Nevegals and Cross Marks) in my 1x1 was rubbing on the seatstay brace. So I'd recommend using a tire that has low knobs and/or low casing height.

Do a search for DMR chaintug with mech. hanger. It's the hanger most of us have used to convert our 1x1s into geared bikes.

Be sure and post pics when you done.

crossmarks are 29x2,1, same like nanoraptor, mmm... so you gonna recommend me using tyre like such as 700cx45 cyclocross tyre?

DMR chaintug is not currently available in my country (Indonesia), what only ready stock here is problem solver RD hanger, but i'll try to buy it online
