    KM BB spindle length wanted

    Hello,

I was wondering if some one who is running a bottom bracket in their Karate Monkey could fill me in on what width of spindle they chose.

I'm going to be using RF turbine cranks in the square taper flavor on a 1x9 drivetrain.

    Thanks in advance.

Anyone running Race Face Turbine square taper cranks? What length BB spindle?

It doesn't matter what bike it's going on. You want to make sure the chainline is correct for the 1x9. The only concern with the Karate Monkey is making sure you get a BB for a 73mm shell.

What size did you use?? I have a monkey frame and am building a 1X9 as well. Still shopping for parts.

    Idk, no one told me.

But in all seriousness, I used some calipers at the chainstays, measured 10Xmm so I ordered a 118mm to play it safe. Haven't got it yet to try.

If you learn something about what works let me know. I will be asking my local bike shop for some insight. This bottom bracket voodoo is beyond my scope of practice thus far.

    Thanks

I installed a 113 mm BB and looked down the drive line and the verdict is with my el cheapo crankset I will need to try a 108. The 113 would be ok for multiple gears on the cranks but the single gear would be better off with a shorter bb. My cranks are Truvativ a step below the blaze....the model name eludes me.
So the verdict is still out. Parts are still showing up on the build little by little. Should be on the trail in a couple of weeks.

I believe 110mm is the narrowest you'll find for a 73mm BB shell.

I use a 73x110 with Truvativ Isoflow cranks. Works fine.

Update: the 118 was quite wide for my 1x9 set up. The bike was sold before I finished building it up though, I love my pugsley way too much to supplement it.

I posted a pic in my album of what the 113 looks like. My local bike store guy has a 107 for me to try. I'll get to it this week end.

107 works great for the 1x9....so shorter is better is what I found out. Different cranks may require different widths.

I am planning to buy a new crank and BB for my Karate Monkey. In particular BB length is a concern. As soon as my bank balance decides on what I can buy I will hopefully post back here and ask for advice.

I am new to this site and I am very glad I found it.
