Karate Monkey with Shimano STI road shifters

I have installed some old Durace 9 speed STI shifters on my Wood-chippered KM, but I have yet to sort out the front shifting satisfactorily.

It seems the only options are the top-pull CX70 shimano front derailleur, the Speen Umlenker, or the Problem solvers Cross Clamp and Pulley with a road derailleur.

I cant be the only person doing this, can anyone tell me if there is much clearance for the Problem Solvers Pulley between seat tube and the tire? I know I can always move the wheel back with the Monkey nuts, but I love the zippy handling with them up hard against the stops .

    My way

I am not sure if you solved your situation but this is my way or at least it was when I got an SE Stout 29er

In fact I am rebuilding my KM And I got from a friend a brand new top pull derailleur that I am planning to use with the same method due to the clean look and clearence

    Good look
In my workshop, dirty hands is a state of mind
