    Cross Check sizing verification

I am about to order a Cross Check frame set (Dark Dirty Blue), but wanted to check the size first.

I am 5' 10" with a 32.5" inseam. My road bike (fixed) has an ETT of 550mm and with a 100mm stem, fit is spot on. I had a Surly Steamroller a couple of years ago and at 56cm and 568mm ETT, it just felt a little too long with a 100mm stem.

So, the Cross Check at 54cm is 560mm and 52cm is 547mm. I'm somewhat at a loss of which one to get. At first, I thought the 54, but most suggestions for a CX bike is to size down, so is 52 the likely better fit?? I thought I was pretty confident, but finding out I'm more confused than before. Thanks for any inputs.

I wouldn't size down on a Surly - the head tubes are awfully short, so you'll end up with a mountain of spacers to get the bars high enough. I rode the same size Cross Check as all my other road bikes. I'd go with the 54cm.

Thanks, Thor. I also read of the toe overlap issue. I will get the 54. I changed my mind about the color. I will go with the hospital foam green.

    Definitely a 54 for you.

It's a toss up. I'm about the same size and have owned a 54 and a 56. I like the 56 better. Too much toe overlap on the 54 for me. I use mine as an allrounder w/nitto albatross bars. It's more of a mixed terrain, commuter, part time tourer for me, so the longer top tube works, and is a bit more comfortable on longer rides.

I ride a medium Karate Monkey too, if that helps.

Thanks, Gents. I ride a med KM as well. Hope I made the right choice, or a fairly new CC will be up for sale in a couple of months.

I'm not concerned about toe overlap, though. Never had issues, even on the fixed bike.
