Steer tube length

I have a line on a used talas but the steer tube has been cut to 6.7 inches. The heckler its going on has a head tube length of 4.7 inches.

Will 2 inches of extra tube be enough?

This is my first real build and I want to make sure everything is correct before I buy.

Put it all together with stem and spacers, then make your mark. You'll need it about 3/32" to an 1/8"
under that mark for the cap bolt to seat the headset properly. If you snug up the cap bolt and it has play in the headset, then the steerer is too long.
You'll see that the top cap has a step that will go down in the stem (or spacers) when you put it on so you won't want to cut it flush with the top of the stem.
Carbon forks are a whole different matter.
