I've seen threads on interference and having to file portions of the FD for 2x10. Is one FD recommended over the other. Bike will have xtr 26:38 cranks. It is 2011 dw sultan.
I have XTR M980 cranks with the 986 FD on '12 Spot. I replaced the 26t with a 24t because I need the extra grunt on some climbs and the FD is spec'd for a 14t spread. In order to get good shifting I had to file quite a bit. Shimano's literature says to get the outside of the cage 1-3mm above the teeth of the big ring. At 3mm shifting was unreliable. I removed the FD and kept filing until I was at 1mm. This is now the best shifting bike I've ever had. Totally worth the effort.
Either one will need filing. Just chamfer the drive side of the clamp until you get close to shimano specs. I'm running the same set up on my spot although I don't think I got close to spec, mine is shifting fine
