    XX1 derailleur installation question

The XX1 derailleur comes with a plastic piece installed. Should this be left installed when installing the cable to get the proper cable tension, or is it just there for shipping?

I searched the SRAM website for an XX1 derailleur user manual, and they don't seem to have one specifically for XX1. There is a service manual, but it only shows how to attach the derailleur to the bike, not how to set it up.

I've removed it from the 2 XX1 derailleurs I have installed so far w/o any issue in the installation, I think it's just there for shipping

The plastic piece is to stop the pulley cage from colliding into the shifter guide. If you adjust the H screw so it moves the cage away then the plastic piece can be move and you can install and adjust as normal. If you have 135mm frame bike which is the problem I have... you will need to get a new hanger with 3.5mm more meat on it to offset the derailleur so you can use the 10T cog... For 142mm frames no issues once H screw is adjusted to 10T cog.
