Probably many posts about gearing on the xx1 around, but I am looking for some actual experience. I'm thinking about switching out my 32t front chainring for a 34t or possibly 36t. Anyone have experience with riding a 32t and then going up to a 34 or 36? How much of a change is it going up a few teeth in the front?
I'm also a little worried about chain length. My current chain is cut to fit a 32 and I used SRAMs instructions on fitting chain length. Will my chain fit the larger chainrings?
I do enjoy a lot of climbing on the bike, but with a light hardtail I rarely used the 42 rear with the 32 up front in my area. I can see on a longer ride wanting to have the 42 to fall back on, but I've set my bike up more for racing in mind. I'm thinking 1 hour -2.5 hour rides tops, so I'm not too worried about suffering up a few steep climbs if need be. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
