    Hi all

I currently have a s-2200 crank fitted with a 38t 24t (104/64) with bashguard on my specialized fsr camber bike, I have always struggled with the 38t and would like to reduce it down a little.

Ideally I have been told that the 36t would be fine i was wondering about 34t but i have been advised that this is not available. My question is can i just change the 38t to a 36t and leave the 24t or do i have to also change that to 22t as at the moment the 24t is just fine.

Also the bike is fitted with an Sram x.7 front derailluer which is direct mounted S3 DMD bottom pull I believe will this be ok with a 36t ring also if it is would the chain also need to be reduced and if so how many links would you recommend.

36 tooth should work fine without changing to a 22, you might reduce the chain by two links (equal to how many teeth you reduced your front ring) or just leave it alone and see if you notice any issues.

I have an S2200 crankset BB30 (22/36/bash) and I would like to convert this to a traditional 2x10 (26/39). Is this possible? Do I just need the spider and chainrings?

Resurrecting.....Looking at getting the 38/24 with bash.

Any thoughts on taking the bash ring off and re-using the chainring bolts from the 39/26 chainrings?

Would they fit and be the correct length?

You will need to get a new set of shorter bolts

I guess that's kind of what I am asking. Are the bolts that currently hold my 39/26 chainrings together 'shorter' than the bolts that come with the 38/24/bash?

The 39/26 is just the spider arms and then the two chain rings....by reusing those bolts I'm thinking it would get me the same thing when I take the bash guard off with the new chainrings.

Guess I'll have to try it and see.

I have a 24/28/bash off a bike right now so I can give you some dimensions.

The shoulder section that goes through the bash and spider from the front is 7mm and the total width is 9mm including the head. The threads of the screw that goes into the shoulder section from the back side of the big ring are 5mm and the total width is 7mm.

Compare that to your setup with just the ring/spider. Pretty sure you need longer bolt setup as I bought this combo to replace the original 26/39/spider (with no bash) that came on my now sold Jamis Dakar B2 (I put those original rings back on when I sold it keeping the (IMO) more desirable spider/24/38/bash.

    X0 2x10 22/36 and 24/38 chainring availability?

    Yes, I swapped the 38 for a 36. I like the 24/36 combination.

Race Face. I bought a 36t Turbine ring from my LBS and swapped them before installing the crankset. It works perfectly.

Did you select the chainring with truvativ 4 bolt option? ever consider going down to 34?

I'm not sure what that option is. I just grabbed a 10 speed, 36 tooth (104 BCD) off the shop wall.

I've thought about a 34. I wanted one up until maybe June, but then I was strong enough that I was doing a lot of climbing in 36/36 and dropping several cogs to climb dirt roads, even with my mid-30s AM beast with 29er Minions. I'm due for a new chainring, and I'm debating buying a 34 to get me through the first couple months of next year. We'll see. With a 34 I would spend a LOT more time in the big ring, which has some advantages. I'd only ever spin out on roads.
