    Why no SRAM 180mm cranks?

I hate mixing and matching group sets and I want to give XO1 a try, but at 6'5" I have been running 180 cranks for over 15 years and I don't want to go back to 175's.

So why doesn't SRAM make a 180 crank set? If they did I would buy it in a heartbeat.

I'm thinking of trying XO1 with my XT cranks and a Wolf Tooth chainring, but I dislike the idea of mixing the two manufactures. Another option is a Race Face Turbine crank and their chainring or wait till Shimano comes out with a 1 x 11 system.

Also 6'5"... But I ride stock crank lengths because...

However, I'm guessing the real reason is the market is small and doesn't justify the investment. Same reason why us tall guys don't get 63cm carbon fiber framesets-- tooling costs trump the market size and benefits.

Truvativ make the aka chainset in 180mm. The arms are the same as the x9 and alloy x01 arms and the spider is removable and replaceable with the x01 spider.

I spoke with one of the Sram reps at Sea Otter 2012 and asked the same question. Seriously, here is his answer "You can't make carbon cranks in 180mm due to the high stresses involved". I just laughed at him and walked away.

They just don't see the payback because of the testing and tooling costs. I'm currently running a full XTR group including 180mm cranks and couldn't be happier.

I had a similar response from Campagnolo regarding 180 compact cranks.

Since I started this thread I found that lightening cranks makes a 180 carbon crank that works with XX1. Which is the same design as the specialized cranks because specialized licenses it from them.
