Sram X5 front derailliur, X9 shifter

    Hi.

Ive just had a hell of a time replacing my x5 rear derailliure for an X0 and an X9 shifter, but after many hours i think I've finlly got it dialled in, however I still have the X5 front derailliur and shifter. All I plan to change now it the shifter for a matching X9 shifter and Ive just been told that the X9 shifter will not work well with the X5 front derailiure.

I personally cant see why this would be the case, but just thought I would check with the people in the know before I go screwing up my bike even more

If your X-5 fd is for a 8 or 9 speed drivetrain and your X-9 front shifter is also for a 8-9 speed drivetrain, well no problem. If you use a 10 speed drivetrain, you will need a 10 speed fd and a 10 speed front shifter, since the spacing for a 10 speed crank is narrower then a 8 or 9 speed, so your fd has to move differently and means that the front shifter has to pull a different amount of cable then the 8-9 speed one does.

Otherwise I've never heard of that problem.
