Need to replace x5 shifter..need help fast!

Broke one of my x5 shifters on my Trek Cobia. Since I'm replacing the shifter I plan on upgrading the shifter to one that is still compatible with my 3X10 gears with Shimano Deore front derail and sram x5 rear.

My LBS recommends going to the x7 since going higher won't benefit my set up enough to justify the cost. Both x7 shifters would cost roughly $80.

Is there a better set, maybe shimano, that would work and give me better performance for the money?

Shimano shifters aren't compatible with SRAM rear derailleurs (different actuation ratio), to put it shortly.

XT shifters are a big step up from X5 or something like Deore, but you would have to swap the rear derailleur as well. Otherwise, keep it simple and go with X7 or X9, depending on your budget and future plans for upgrades.

Thanks for the reply. I decided to go with a new x7 set.
