According to the SRAM Spare Parts Catalog there are conversion parts for the hubs.
    Here's the link.
    See page 54.

Talked to a guy at SRAM on Thursday. Honestly, he sounded like he wasn't totally sure, but he didn't think it could be converted.

Universal Cycles -- Sram X9 Axle Kits

I just ordered the 12mm to QR kit from there. It looks like they have other kits too, but they are on back order.

It should be......IF you can find the parts. I knocked mine out today to see what's up with the internals. It's a different system, that's for sure. But the hole is big enough for up to 20mm thru axles for sure. Finding the parts is a whole other beast though. Maybe your LBS can find them. I'm gonna inquire with Universal tomorrow when I go down there.

Universal didn't have a 9 to 15T/A listed on their website. I'm hoping someone else may chime in here.

Ok guys there is two ways to convert 15mm thu axle to 9mm qr.

1 replace the through axle endcaps that are 15mm with 9mm qr endcaps.

2 leave the 15mm on the hub and use the mavic plug in converters.

I have tried to find the correct endcaps but still dont know where to find them. Sram has dropped the ball on accessories for that.

I ended up using the #2 option.

Sram what endcap part number is it ??????????

Old thread revival... I want to purchase an X9 20mm hub and put a 9mm thru axle in it to use with my existing fork. The idea would be that when I replace the fork I can go straight to 20mm. Is this possible? (I'm not interested in doing it if I have to use a 9mm QR, only if I can put a thru axle in it).

    Thanks!

Can a X-9 Sram Front hub Thru axle be converted?

Have 2 data points for this thread: 1) I converted a 20mm X9 to 15mm with new axle, end caps and bearings using the parts # from the X9 exploded drawing & part list. 2) by fluke, I found this kit on pinkbike from a guy who tried to use them to convert a 9mm x9 hub to 15mm and found it didn't work on that hub shell

Hello Islander - Just to verify that you converted 20mm X9 to 15mm with new end caps... what do you mean by bearings?

The LBS I took my wheel to ordered end caps and then upon consulting the SRAM manuals that you could not convert it to 15mm. After reading your post I am thinking that I just didn't have the correct or enough parts to do the conversion.

any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

based on what I have read on this thread you can convert a SRAM X9 15mm thru axle front hub to a 9mm quick release by purchasing the Sram X9 QR Axle Kit, no other parts are needed, correct?

I don't really know. i went from 20mm to 15mm thru axle. My guess is that it can be done but you may need a matching bearing. If that comes with the QR axle kit you are probably set.

I have an X9 10x135mm rear hub. Does anyone know if there is a conversion kit for 12x142mm available for this hub? My searching has given conflicting results

    Thanks

I bought 15mm kit on PB from guy who tried to go from 9 to 15mm and found it didn't work. Can't see why the reverse would work.

Did you ever receive an answer for this? I'm in a similar situation.
