10 speed cassette on 9 speed hub?

This question has probably been ask before but I can't find it in the archives. Can I put Sram's new ten speed cassette on my 9 speed hub? Does it require a 10 speed specific chain?

Hub yes, you will need a new 10sp chain though.

Lou is correct, the 10sp cassette is the same width as the 9sp, just narrower spacing between rings. All you need to do is change the cassette and run a 10sp chain which is also more narrow, and 10sp shifter to make use of the extra ring.

So basically I can switch to a 10 speed cassette, chain, rear derailleur, and shifter, and I've got a 2X10 set? Right now I'm running 2X9 with 22/34t chainrings and I really like it.

10 speed cranksets are spaced differently than 9 speed cranksets, and are also intended to work better with narrower 10s chain. ymmv.
