    Stumpy Stem replacement.

    Quick (stupid) question.

I was getting a different stem for my stump fsr 2010. Steerer is 1 1/8" BUT it has the shim.

Can I buy a 1 1/8" stem and use the shim still or do I eliminate the shim AND ALSO replace the spacers and cap?

    Thanks

Just buy stem for a 1 1/8 steerer tube and eliminate the shim. depending on the stem you buy, you might need to add/remove a spacer. I think you'll need to replace the cap as well because it is angled for the stock stem, in my 07 that was the case not to sure about the 2010's.

Are you talking about the the adjustable shim inside the clamping area?
The specialized stems use the adjustable shim to have a finer adjustment to the stem angle. You can use any other 1 1/8 stem you want, but you cant use that shim unless you buy another specialized stem.

Thanks. Thats what I thought. It was obvious but I'd rather ask. Getting a new cap, 1 1/8" spacers and a 1 1/8" stem.

    Thanks again!

yeah it's better to have everything you need when you do the swap. when i did mine, had to come back the shop twice, one for the cap and another for the spacer because i didnt realize i needed another spacer till I tighted everything up.

I bought a stem from Specialized.com recently and it came with the top cap and 3 different angle shims for $40.
