Stumpjumper FSR 2013, derailer cage length

    hi everyone!
I'm trying to figure out, if my stumpjumper fsr needs a mid or long cage derailer (sj 2012 comp evo, shimano xt).

The current stumpjumper lineup has a mid cage for the s-works and long cage for all others (despite less required chain capacity)

This doesnt make much sense to me, does someone have any advice?

My sj fsr 29 expert came with the mid cage type2 x0 (stock).

It has not enough capacity to handle the stock setup (11-36 rear, 24-36 front)...

Now that makes me even more confused. My current derailer is a X9 mid cage, which works well in combination with 11-36 and 24/36.

Can rear suspension add some extra chain slack, which makes a difference with an otherwise identical setup?

Can you use all 20 speed without the derailleur wrapping over on small small?

The fsr on my frame "shortens" the chain (pulls the derailleur forward)
when compress. This also cause issues with the type 2 derailleur (SRAM type 2 derailleur issues)

    Actually, i have the non-clutch X9 derailleur.

I can shift small/small, and the chain is still tight. Havent ridden it that way though.

Update: The mid cage derailleur works perfectly (shimano xt)
Shimano seems to be very conservative with their specs.
