S-Works XX group but no MatchMaker X Clamp

I wonder why they didn't include the SRAM MatchMaker X Clamp on the s-works epic since it has xx brakes and shifters. Seems like a no-brainer.

The Matchmaker actually comes with the brakes or the X-Loc Hydraulic lockout (my lockout came with the shifter attachment). Since Specialized is an OEM purchaser, I imagine they bought the brakes in the least expensive format (besides those little ano red reach adjusters that I have only seen on the SWorks bikes and not any of the aftermarket brakes.)

That is my theory at least. Saving a bit of money one set of brakes at a time (spread across a lot of brakes mind you).

^ exactly. Same reason the "custom" juicy ultimates over the last couple years didn't get the proper carbon levers. Or how the "custom" xt760 cranks have a steel granny gear instead of alloy. Nickles and dimes, nickles and dimes...

FYI, the xx match makers actually weight more then the individual clamps.

Well, my Matchmaker X clamps came in today.

Here's a pic (the old clamps are on the left).

I don't have a digital scale that will measure grams but in my hand they feel equal.

hey, will someone post some pics of the xx shifter and brakes with the matchmaker? I thought about getting them, but I thought the shifter might be too close to the grip.

I put them on a couple hours ago. They can be installed on either side which moves the shifter position in or out (I choose in) and you have a small amount of vertical adjustment for the shifter in relation to the brake position. Here are a couple pics:

MATCHMAKERS are 1 gram heavier .at least w/ my setup.
xo and carbon elixer brakes. w/ matchmaker one side=18grams .w/out =17 grams.
very miner, but why install them if weight savings is your goal.

On my scale the right side XX Matchmaker is 26 g and the individual standard clamps it replaces are 20 g (one side only). Weight saving is not the reason you are using XX Matchmaker

    A more accurate scale revealed:
    Matchmaker XX: 26.05 g
    Standard XX clamps: 20.63 g
    so my conclusion above stands

    417markg,
I have Elixir brakes that came with my Epic Marathon. How does the matchmaker clamp attach to the double bolt bracket on the brake levers, I can see easily how the shifter mounts....but it appears in your photo you have xx levers?
    thanks

There was a slight weight penalty but it's only on one side (I am 1 x 10) and I like the simplicity.

Here are a couple pictures of the brake side:
