Ok...did a lot of reading here about the S-Works crank..seems like there were lots of issues with installation and the included BB and spindle sleeve. Not seeing what the issue was. The directions were v. clear and we (I helped the guy at the LBS do it) knocked it out fairly quick using the S-Works BB. Here are the particulars:
The original 170mm SRAM S-1250 crankset w/Wolf Tooth ring (32T) and SRAM PF30 BB weighed 780g. New 170mm S-Works crank and BB weighed almost exactly 1/2 pound less so by my calcs, 554g w/ a Wolf Tooth direct-mount 32t ring (didn't actually weigh the S-Works gear as the shop didn't have a scale so I had to weigh my complete bike at home and I had a "before" weight). The crank spins nicely...maybe a bit tighter than the SRAM but it will loosen up with use. I used the spacer made of the double b/c Wolf Tooth says the direct-mount ring is the same width as a S-Works double spider. Its v. easy to take out/re-install (we had to do it once b/c we forgot a piece).
Will ride in a few days when our trails dry out (rained like hell today)...hopefully will be creak free. I also need to pick up some of those rubber end-caps so I don't damage if I smack my crank arm.
