i would say im generally happy with my bike. however, the geometry makes it easy to lift up the front wheel on climbs, hence thinking of a new cross country bike! my rear wheel (stock dtswiss 445d rim and stout hub) has been a lemon since i got it. a spoke broke after 2 rides and my local lbs charged me $30 to replace it. shortly thereafter the freehub developed play and make loud cracking noises. i got that replaced($40). the problem is that i dont want to put more money into fixing this stock rear wheel when i could be using the $ towards buying a better wheelset. the fork is a recon sl coil which i enjoy as ive never rode with suspension before! but the lockout failed and recently got it warrantied. this is the reason for wanting to upgrade. id like to get a fox air fork in the future and perhaps the new mavic crossmax xt or crank bros cobalt wheels? what im wondering is if its worth upgrading to parts that is worth more than my bike??

i have the same wheelset and they're holding up well with me, haven't broken any spokes or anything. but they sure are damned heavy. i can make you some wheel recommendations, just give me a budget:

check these out: get the color rim + nipples that u want and get the colored PUREXCR hubs. i hear they're pretty good and light. you may want to get a second opinion since i've never used these though.

they sure are lighter than some more expensive wheels though...

if u want something cheaper around $200 shipped u can do the WTB Laserdiscs + XT Hubs + DT Spokes.my gf just got a set of those for her myka

    rockhopper

im not so concerned about weight as i am strength? i weigh over 200 lbs and my stock wheels are a joke. id like to purchase a wheelset that is strong first, light second. ive been thinking a custom build of hope pro 2's, dt 5.1, dt comp spokes. i think they will cost $500 which makes me wonder if i should just get the new crossmax st discs or the crank bors iodines! what other mods are you thinking for your ride? im looking for new ideas...

should be a lot less than $500, unless the dollar is crap right now
I would venture to guess 4.2D will hold your weight with comp spokes unless you are really hard on your rear wheel
