For all you guys sporting pimped out Hardrocks. I have an 08' that I purchased in 09. Have done some moderate riding with it, but would appreciate some advice on a few cost effective upgrades based on your experience. Main complaints thus far is that the transmission seems clunky to me and the fork is pretty poor. I purchased my son a motobecane 600HT and it shifts sooo much smoother and even his lower level RockShox Dart 2 is has loads better feel than my RST fork.

There are some great deals on RockShox Recon Silvers on the web right now that would get you an airsprung fork that would be loads better(and lighter!) than your RST or your sons Dart 2. Check out Pricepoint.com

Ask for your clunky tranny, you may just need a good tuneup. If thats not the case, then perhaps an upgrade is due for it as well.

Another great upgrade would be a good wheelset and going tubeless. You can knock a pound off each wheel easily(and its rotational mass) which is gonna getcha more accelleration and likely a stronger wheel.

Thanks, I'll check out those Recons. I had a tune a while back that did not seem to correct my shifting woe's, but whose to say that the technician did his job or not, I am pretty sure that even those the parts are not upper tier, they should work better than they do now.

I'll have to take some pics but this is what I have done to my Hardrock '11 Sport 29 disc.

    Hayes prime pro brakes.
Avid 180mm HSX 2 piece rotor up front.
    Manitou tower pro fork.
    truvativ noir carbon bars
    truvativ noir stem
    Ergon gx1 grips
    WTB Pure V saddle
    Truvativ seat post

    Maxxis tires (Ardent front/Ignitor rear).

Misc titanuim and anodized alumiunum hardware.

Figure my $600ish new from LBS Hardrock is now about $1700is, LMAO. Love it though, pretty much bombproof frame!

On behalf of my 13 year old son, here is his 2012 Hardrock Disc. I have told the story/mentioned the bike before on here but not in this thread, so here you go:

He had wanted a Hardrock for a while, since we went to a bike shop that used to be fairly close to where we live (it's closed down now) and it had a pump track/few dirt jumps, etc out back. Loads of the young guys ran Hardrocks with beefed up forks and bar/stem combo's and my son (who was too young to ride the course back then) was impressed. They were mainly around 2005-2007 HR's iirc.

Anyway as soon as he out grew his old mtb he wanted the next one to be a HR. So this year he got one.

Mods aren't massive but here is the lot:
    Easton EA30 midrise bars (685mm)
    Kona Wah Wah pedals
Maxxis High Rollers 2.35" front and rear
    WTB Volt saddle

Other little things - Spesh bottle cage, MBUK (uk mag) valve caps and a neoprene chainstay protector.

    Here is a pic

He loves it. The colourway is called black/red punk and although you can't see it in the pic, the hubs and part of the stem are also the same red as the seatpost Q/R.

I don't see why you couldn't try and get full msrp with all the parts on it. Worst thing to happen is it doesn't sell

I would recommend getting the shimano 395 hydraulic brakes
I just bought them and they are really inexpensive and they are phenomenal for the money you spend on them. We have tons of people around town running them and have had no complaints whatsoever!
