New cycles coming... Question about pedals...

    Hello folks!

Well, we're excited around here. My new Rockhopper Comp (my first mountain bike) and my wife's 2014 Myka 29er Sport Disc (her first geared bike, period!) will be in our possession very soon, having done the financial portion of our duty.

We are, of course, going to have to wait just a bit. And, in the meantime, we are shopping for various other items to enhance our cycling experience.

I am what many folks would call a clydesdale. I have been advised by several people that I need a set of pinned platform pedals to round out my Rockhopper. I have narrowed it down to these two choices and wonder if you could push me in one direction or another:

Which of these choices should we be wisely choosing here for my Rockhopper Comp?

Amazon.com: Shimano Pd-Mx80 Platform Pedals: Sports & Outdoors

    Specialized Bicycle Components

Or, should I be doing something else in the same price range?

Thank you for your assistance. Have a splendid weekend folks!

I've had good luck with Wellgo MG1 pedals. I run these pedals on my FSR, hardtail and fatbike and never had a problem. Plus you can get them brand new from a top rated seller on Ebay for around $40ish, many different colors. Just thought I'd throw out another option for you. Enjoy your new bikes!

New cycles coming... Question about pedals...

The Bennies are fine. Nice pedal for sure, I have them on my Stumpy FSR.

I like those Shimano pedals too.

But, jeepers, MG-1's are pretty hard to beat, especially for the price...

Buy good pedals and you can use them for many years. I have used many different platform pedals and the Specialized Bennies are my favorite (paired with 5-10 shoes). You will be happy with the Bennies.

I have both, but have not ridden the Bennies. They came on my Demo, but I'm selling them since they are white. Almost identical thickness and length (front to back), but the Saints are about 1/2" wider. That's why I got them, since my size 12's sometimes felt unstable on the outside edge. I did bend a spindle on the Saints in a bad crash, but I would expect most pedals to do that.

I'd suggest the Wellgos for you. I've heard lots of good things about them, in addition to the comments above. I just looked and $40 does appear to be the average price.

    Have fun!

Haven't tried the Bennies as I was able to find a pair of the old Lo Pro Mag II's (in gold) but I'd get them in a second.
